Surprise! McCain all for the sales of our ports to UAE

In a statement released moments ago, he says Bush has earned our trust in the war on terror and that there is too much heat and not enough light on this subject.

15. Yeah - I guess the straight talk he supposedly does is just more B.S.!
I fell for him completely - thought he was a moderate. Just shows how easy it is to snow people - tell them what they want to hear and they won't notice your actions.

I think the BFEE has some dirt on him or something. Or they promised him boatloads of $$ for his campaign if he "behaved"!!!!

3. The usual suspects being trotted out to the press to quiet opposition.
Probably that UAE delegation in Washington (in the Lincoln bedroom?) holding hands with Bush to spin the thing. Next you'll see my revolting Bush suck-up, Senator Hatch, going on TV to talk about how good this is for America.

:puke:

10. John McCain, Hypocrite

John McCain, Hypocrite
by Doug Ireland

John McCain, the media's darling, has found a clever way around his own campaign finance reform law to take big corporate bucks in furtherance of his political ambitions while carrying water for the corporate mammoth providing the dough. But the national press is ignoring the story.

The Associated Press first ran the story of John McCain's odorous but lucrative Senatorial service to the communications giant Cablevision on the afternoon of March 7. But, while some local papers in McCain's home state (like the East Valley Tribune) have run the story, nothing has as yet made it into the print editions of the New York Times, the L.A. Times, the Washington Post, or any of the half-dozen other big city dailies I checked (although, if one searches the hundreds of AP stories available on the Post's website on its Politics page by clicking on "Latest Wire Reports," one can find it there--but how many readers would bother to do that?) One notable exception: the Kansas City Star.

Here's what the AP's investigation found:

McCain repeatedly intervened on behalf of a policy Cablevision favored -- one which "congressional and private studies conclude could make cable more expensive" -- while his chief political adviser, Rick Davis (who's masterminding McCain's probable '08 presidential rerun) solicited $200,000 in contributions from Cablevision to an institute that promotes McCain and pays Davis a $110,000 annual salary.

The Reform Institute was set up to promote McCain and his issues--especially campaign finance reform, embodied in the famous McCain-Feingold law. This Institute is "a tax-exempt group that touts McCain's views and has showcased him at events since his unsuccessful 2000 presidential campaign," and it "often uses the senator's name in press releases and fund-raising letters and includes him at press conferences," the AP says. And, of course, it provides a cushy sinecure with no heavy lifting for McCain's main man, Davis, as he prepares the pontificating Senator's next presidential run. Cablevision's contributions account for a whopping 15% of the Institute's budget.

11. As I have said in the past....if a man lets his family be slandered ..
He is really not a man. Bush and his vile crew headed by that thing Rove smeared John McCains family and his character. First about McCains sanity because of his ordeal in Viet Nam secondlly about his wife and her drug problems and thirdly about the race of a child they adopted from India. From that moment on anytime that MCCain appeared with Bush no matter the circumstances the essence of the man known as John McCain dimishes drip by drip. And once again I call your attention to the fact that you have never seen John McCains wife on a stage with him when he is on a stage with Idiot in Chief!

22. Keep saying lame things like "Bush has earned our trust.....
McCain. I don't want you running for President in 2008, so keep shooting yourself in the foot.

Actually, I think McCain is missing some important parts. There's no other way to explain some of his behavior.

25. PLEASE GIVE A LINK WHEN AVAILABLE. In the meantime - not surprised:
John McCain has totally sold out to the Bush financial backers, and the Dubai deal pleases them very much:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x484387
thread title (2-21-06 GD): The Dirty Little Secret Behind the UAE Port Security Flap (David Sorata)
Comment/excerpt: Excerpt from David Sirota’s explanation: “What does "free" trade have to do with this? How about everything. The Bush administration is in the middle of a two-year push to ink a corporate-backed "free" trade accord with the UAE. At the end of 2004, in fact, it was Bush Trade Representative Robert Zoellick who proudly boasted of his trip to the UAE to begin negotiating the deal. Rejecting this deal might have set back that trade pact. Accepting it - regardless of the security consequences - likely greases the wheels for the pact. That's probably why instead of backing off the deal, President Bush - supposedly Mr. Tough on National Secuirty - took the extraordinary step of threatening to use the first veto of his entire presidency to protect the UAE's interests. Because he knows protecting those interetsts - regardless of the security implications for America - is integral to the "free" trade agenda all of his corporate supporters are demanding.”

McCain courting Bush loyalists

ARIZONA SENATOR REACHING OUT TO GOP NETWORKS AS HE CONSIDERS RACE FOR WHITE HOUSE IN '08
By Dan Balz
Washington Post

With a 2008 campaign in the offing, McCain has begun an intensive courtship of Bush's financial and political networks. His recent travels included a December swing through the heart of Bush country in Texas that put him in front of many of the president's leading supporters there.

In 2000, McCain proved better at attracting independent voters than Republicans, and his success in overcoming doubts about him within his own party holds the key to his prospective candidacy. As Republicans look toward 2008 and worry about maintaining the White House, a streak of pragmatism has drawn them to look again at a man who often has been an antagonist of the president and party leaders.

McCain, who was not interviewed, will not make a final decision about running until after November, aides said. In anticipation of a likely campaign, he appears eager to reach accommodation with longtime GOP adversaries. He has undertaken the kind of practical steps necessary to enhance his chances of winning the nomination: focusing on organizations in critical states and building relationships with Republicans who rejected him in 2000.

(snip)

But recent events and McCain's record have coincided to make the Arizona senator newly attractive to many Republicans. After the scandal involving lobbyist Jack Abramoff, Republicans are scrambling to associate themselves with McCain's image as a reformer. They also praise McCain for his role in smoothing the confirmation of Bush's judicial nominations.

(snip)
