17. Now opening - Republican Theater presents: The Caine Mutiny
Edited on Wed Feb-22-06 10:23 AM by Tin Man
Remember "The Caine Mutiny"? For me, it seems a good analogy to the current drama unfolding within the ship of state.

We've got W as Captain Queeg, who for lack of foresight, unyielding hubris, and a sequence of poor decisions - has managed to steer the ship into the middle of a typhoon. His lieutenants, afraid to challenge his command, simply follow orders throughout - until finally, in the midst of the storm, Queeg issues the command to change course - an action which would imperil the ship and the lives of everyone aboard. It is only then, that the lieutenants decide to sieze command of the ship, believing Capt Queeg to have gone mad. This action saves the ship, but sets the scene for Court Martial proceedings, in which the lieutenants are tried for mutiny.

My only question is, has the republican congress reached the point at which they'll mutiny, or will they continue to follow the orders of Capt 'W' Queeg, and go down with the ship?

33. "Then there was the strawberry incident"
I think this is Bushit's strawberry incident. He should have known to just let this one go and said something to the effect that we are all idiots but oh well he'll do as we wish. Instead Mr Silverspoonuphisass thinks he is going to show us all just how much power he has and he draws a line in the sand. I haven't seen one single issue in 5 yrs that pretty much every American could agree on until this one. I always thought the world would end if Freepers and DU-ers actually ever agreed on something. Yet this is the issue that President Pretzel chooses to use his first veto on? Hahahahahaha! What a total gift for our side!

The only thing that could have made this sweeter is if a real threat for '08 like McCain blundered into the discussion on the side of insanity and showed himself for the bootlicker he really is. AND IT HAPPENED! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Oh man, indictments handed out almost daily, the Chimpenor running under 40%, his cronies on the hill in the 20's during an off-year election cycle, Cheney shoots a man in the face and makes the man say hes sorry for being shot, and now this!

I sure wish the election was tomorrow. :)

2. Sometimes I wonder if Bush and Cheney actually WANT to be
impeached--and they say to each other, "What the hell do we have to do to get fired, shoot someone? Sell our ports to the financeers of our enemies?" It is just too bizarre.

occupations, attacking first sovereign nations that hadn't been doing a damn thing to us or to anyone else, 911 on bush's watch, the lies, lies, lies, the illegal spying...

And FINALLY bush goes too far.

Thank goodness most mericans DO actually have a limit.

36. We'll see how long people pay attention...
But I was thinking the same thing. After all the lies, deceit, and corruption, after all the impeachable offenses, THIS is what creates a furor in America? War, torture, spying, shredding the Constitution etc. are ok, but one foreign company buying another foreign company and its contracts is an outrage?

Sigh... Whatever it takes to get people to wake up, I guess.

Any bets that they forget all about this as soon as the next distraction comes along? :eyes:

To: rattrap
The Pres has very successfully convinced a great majority that we have much to fear from terrorists (who just happen to be Islamists). Everytime he wants to up his poll numbers or garner votes, some OBL tape surfaces and we all (rightly so) become concerned about our national security.

So now he expects us to just say, Oh sure, the pres says it's ok for the Islamist to become intimately involved in the operations of our ports -hey, no problem !!!

Sort of like Princess Diana hating the stalking press but using them when she needed to.

Sorry George, you can't have it both ways.

34. I used to worry about scandal fatigue...
but it seems that the scandal-of-the-week phenomenon is creating a slow surge in the general population against Bush, and towards impeachment. Many folks may not know much about Plamegate, Abramoffor wiretapping, etc. but it doesn't seem to matter, for every little bit of bad news, week by week, seems to help eat away at any remaining "faith" they have in Bush. With so many scandals and issues, Rove, et al, find their smear and distraction efforts diluted, and so the "message" that ultimately (hopefully) gets through is this:
Bush is out of touch
Bush is incompetent
Bush is dishonest
Bush doesn't care about me.

As this soaks in, week after week, the pump is primed; the Repubs in congress seem to sense this, but it may be too late. Another Fitzgerald indictment, or another break in the Abramoff case, perhaps in summertime, could be the straw that breaks the elephant's back...
The question is, will the donkeys start braying and kicking up a fuss, or will they sit down in the middle of the road like scared, stubborn old mules?

44. Could it be that many Republicans have had enough?
After parroting the Republican Party talking points, while suffering themselves, blindly supporting BushCo, while they too are being systematically destroyed, and constantly screaming about and smearing BushCo's opponents, while deep down they know they were wrong, have taken a toll on these Republicans (mistaken people who bought into the BS, and voted against their best interests) who have empowered BushCo?

Has the last year, with all of the BushCo failures, become the tipping point, where they cannot go along with this country's self destruction any more and they are finally seeing who BushCo really represents and takes care of in the government?

Are they finally seeing the tip of the iceberg, and are fearful of things that they refused to consider the last five years, in their blind support, that just did not add up?

It's been frustrating to see these incompetent and crooked creeps mismanaging the country for 5 years, lying to the public, running up a massive deficit, using terrorism as a way to scare up votes, mismanaging the occupation in Iraq (and a thousand other issues) and wondering WHEN WILL THE GENERAL PUBLIC WAKE UP?

Maybe it's morning in America?

You never know exactly what issues will capture the media and the public's interest.
