Secret compartments in Containers from a WJ caller... |
|
Edited on Wed Feb-22-06 09:43 AM by Viva_La_Revolution
Guy called in and said he makes containers for a living, says the public doesn't know that there are secret compartments built in.
I inspected and loaded containers for about 3 years recently, and I've never seen one that had any secret space. They are basically tin boxes on a chassis.
I think this guy is smoking something.

1. Outside measurement = inside measurement ? How hard is that? |
|
Simple way to eliminate "secret" compartments.

4. you don't even need to do that... |
|
one sheet of tin. you tap the side with a forklift and it rips like a pop can.
To be fair, I've only seen a few refrigerated ones, I suppose there 'might' be a little space in one of those that could be used.

2. What is that smell? Oh yeah: bullshit. |
|
You're right. Containers are just 20' or 40' long corrugated metal boxes.
I've been in freight transportation for 20 years, and I've seen a few.

6. They guy also said something about 'Arabs' and was cut off - the way |
|
they do when they recognize a disruptor - a la the Stern caller.
Anyway, the guy seemed to be implying something negative about Arabs.

7. Isn't it possible to have concealed spaces? |
|
I'm surely no expert on shipping containers, but don't some of these have plywood walls inside?
If you put a layer of plywood on a corrugated surface, you wind up with a whole bunch of concealed space in the form of vertical columns (the height of the container), several inches wide, and a couple inches deep. Maybe not the ideal place to try to stuff a suitcase bomb into, but still....?

10. I've seen trailers with wood on the sides, because they are loaded |
|
and unloaded far more often. The containers they want to be as light as possible, I haven't seen one re-enforced like that.

But have you noticed that if you stare at the fist in the middle of that graphic you have, it appears that the fist is growing.. That's cool.. I mean, I realize it's an optical illusion, but it's cool to look at..

...them Muslims can flatten themselves and their bombs and stuff to the thinness of a sheet of paper. Then they stick themselves to the ceiling of the container with paper glue.
We're living in Bizzaro World. I've heard theories less zany. Why bother with secret compartments when you've got special deals with the Bush family and control of the ports of entry and no government oversight?

more and more wackos will call their reps about the port deal. Maybe this time the end justifies the means.

14. Dumbest statement of the day award goes to that guy |
|
If people wanted to ship things in secret, they would ship them seperate.
If container companies were using storage space to make secret compartments, shipping companies would buy from someone else.

16. You only need one box of 1000 in that container to have the drugs in it. |
|
Or the bomb.
This is why we need to nationalize ports and spend billions on x-rays and more surprise inspections and better data mining operations on the companies that use the ports.

17. I've seen pictures of a container built with about a 12" false rear wall |
|
It was loaded with Hashish.

18. Only about 4% of those containers get inspected. |
|
How difficult would it be to bribe someone so they inspect only a certain section of the cargo, and ignore the rest?

|
Seriously, if the guy's legit, is the best course of whistleblowing a call to Washington Journal?
