Suicide Bomber Kills 32 at Iraq Funeral

Suicide Bomber Kills 32 at Iraq Funeral
By JASON STRAZIUSO, Associated Press Writer
41 minutes ago

BAGHDAD, Iraq - A suicide bomber killed 32 mourners and wounded dozens at a funeral for the nephew of a Shiite politician, one of several attacks Wednesday across Iraq that killed a total of 53 people.

The sudden surge in violence followed three weeks of relative calm after Iraq's landmark parliamentary elections on Dec. 15 and came as its three major political parties neared a deal on forming a coalition government that a Shiite politician said would include Shiites, Sunni Arabs and Kurds.

In the worst attack of the day, more than 100 mourners were walking alongside the coffin of a 14-year-old boy in a cemetery in the northern town of Muqdadiyah when the funeral procession was joined by a stranger carrying hidden explosives.

"Suddenly, there was a strong sound, and we were turned upside down," said Amer Khazim, 37. "I saw many legs and hands flying all over the place."<snip>

4. The article said he was Shiite..
Did you find some other mention?

"The funeral was for the teenage nephew of Ahmed al-Bakka, the head of the local Dawa party who had survived an assassination attempt on Tuesday. The nephew was killed in the assassination attempt. The party is led by Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari and a main partner in the country's largest Shiite political coalition, the United Iraqi Alliance."

6. What kind of sick fuck bombs a funeral?
Maybe it was insurgents. It seems more covert. maybe we mistook it for a wedding and attacked.

9. Not to sound crazy.....
but these attacks are so shocking, it would seem to undermine whatever cause they have. It almost seems to deliberate...and I'm not one to spout off about conspiracy theories or whatever....but this seems to have been done to make one side hate another, and there is no strategy there. It would be counterproductive to the "insurgents". Or maybe they just want to make people afraid to go to a funeral....nothing is sacred....whatever. What a goddamn mess.

10. Are you a mind-reader?
My thoughts exactly.:(

Have you ever watched any of the beheading videos? Those are interesting too. Especially the Nick Berg video. Have you seen it?

11. The Berg one was terrible. Well, they're all terrible.
But it seems so counter-intuitive.....almost like propoganda we would make to make us hate them.

12. It was to rally the sheeple. fear, fear, fear.
"This is what they will do to you if we don't fight terra!" "That's why we're fighting them over there and not here on our soil." and they fell for it. Hook, Line and Sinker. They're afraid.

13. What do you mean counter productive?
Zarqawi's goal is to get Shittes to attack Sunnis in revenge causing the Sunni population of Iraq to strike back, thus causing a civil war.

Putting all the violence in Iraq under the label of insurgents is BS. There are alot of different groups with different goals and methods. When you have a suicide bombing against a Shia school children, a Shia funderal procession, or a Shia mosque you can tell which group was behind it.
