This deal puts the UAE eggs(containers) into the UAE baskets(ports)
So, if I am following this - UAE previously bought the container business from CRX. Now they are purchasing the control OVER those containers. Our government is literally putting all the eggs into one basket which is owned by a foreign country. Does this sound prudent? The ports have been identified by many as being the single most porous, perilous breach for American security. Unless, of course, you don't really care about American security.

2. No, DPW bought other, non American ports from CSX
CSX World Terminals: http://www.dpiterminals.com/fullnews.asp?NewsID=4

CSX sold their international container business ("Sea Land") to Maersk, and their domestic container business ("Horizon Lines") to Carlyle, who sold it to Castle Harlan.

I think I misread this thread where I thought DPW bought the containers see post number 20. But I guess it was the Carlyle group. My head is spinning, spinning.

4. Doesn't USCG still inspect containers?
Edited on Wed Feb-22-06 10:59 AM by One_Life_To_Give
Is inspection of containers the responsibility of USCG and US Customs?

How does this effect the security of the port? What part of security was CSX or whomever providing?
