So, How did the British React to the Port Deal?
Edited on Wed Feb-22-06 11:18 AM by JCMach1
The sound you hear is deafening silence...

So, why are Americans reacting the way they are?

By the way, the British government also had a chance to block the deal, because the Dubai company would be in charge of a couple of UK ports. It didn't... http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/anderson.cooper.360/blog/2006/02/inside-port-deal-thats-giving-bush.html

5. Last I'd heard, you had been asked to work for royal family of UAE.
Are you still working for them in some capacity?

11. No interest except to perhaps help get the record straight here...
My work does not involve specific policy in any way... Also, I have no connection to the Dubai royals who are putting up the money.

10. I have a question for them
could they go fuck themselves please? Respectfully? My neighbor is a raving fundamentalist evangelical Christian loaded with cash, SHE wants to by some freakin' mosques, how do they feel about that?

Our ports should not be owned by ANY FOREIGN NATION.

4. Precisely, narry a whimper
from anyone...

Why? A good part of the British tourist population has vacationed in Dubai and understand the place...

When I tell friends or relatives in the states where I live and work, the first thing from there mouths is "How can you work in Saudi Arabia?" :grr:

8. Well, all of the terrorism against us has been internal
First, Northern Ireland (Which is part of the UK, hence the problem) and then 7/7.

Amazing given our history that noone in a foreign land has attacked us since the Nazis

14. Since the Brits understand the place maybe they can explain the
anti gay repression going on there.

12. Not much reaction - the government OKed it
One question asked in Parliament, with the government saying the change of ownership made no difference:

http://www.theyworkforyou.com/wrans/?id=2006-01-30c.46214.h

and there was also a government body that checked the purchase was OK from a security point of view, and said it was - sorry, I can't remember the name of the body (and can't find it with Google because the US Congress objections clog up the answers!)
