1. JAQFOBS
Just Another Quickly Forgotten Outrageous Bush Scandal.

There's so many, it's like they've decided that the best way to get over one is to overshadow it with another. I don't even think I can name all the scandals, and I'm paying attention.

3. If you tried to keep a running record of all their nefarious
dealings, you wouldn't have time for anything else.

4. Yeah, they complained that the later Clinton years were . . .
overshadowed by "Scandal Fatigue."

This administration treats scandal like methadrine and just keeps bouncing off the ceiling. They've changed the rules. Scandals don't apparently mean squat anymore, as long as you're "steadfast."

13. That's exactly what they're doing
It's actually a brilliant strategy that makes use of the nonexistent american attention span. A scandal breaks, and instead of trying to clear it up, they break another scandal. People then forget the first scandal, and it never gets investigated fully.

2. Probably right
They can't afford to fight this one, no matter how much money it will make their cronies.

5. This one issue could be a deciding factor in mid-term
elections. Repugs will never let it happen. I don't care how much Cheney threatens people.

9. The issue here is that the UAE gov't owns the company in question.
It is not a private, foreign corporation.

We do not want a corporation owned by the government of a country from which two of the 9-11 hijackers came and a country which is a central point of distribution of drugs from southeast Asia.

12. Two? Wasn't it like 11?
That "company" is also anti-woman, antiquated, holds public beheadings, and a believes allah gives authority. Is that our government? Or their's?

23. Two different countries: UAE is an emirate and Sausi Arabia is a monarchy.
Both are located on the Arabian peninsula. Both are friends of the BFEE.

I hope our new friend was just being flippant, there will be more people now that we must handle with kid gloves, so I'm going to let this one slide, for now.

6. I think the White House bubble must be getting cloudy . . .
Otherwise how could they let something so utterly tone-deaf like this go through (to paraphrase some 'Lican legislator or the other).

The merits of the case are irrelevant compared to the appearance, and can't Schimpanski see how inappropriate it would be for his first (and only) veto to be used to ensure a back-room deal for his buds and the government of the UAE? At the (apparent) risk of security in 'Murrican ports?

Club-footed indeed.

port deal furor is being used to distract attention from.

11. I doubt it, I think it'll go through, and
I hate it. I live very close to one of the ports and my wife is hysterical over this. I mean really hysterical, as in "let's get the hell away from coastlines no matter what it costs us or whatever we have to sell."

Like I don't have enough problems without hearing about this shit 24/7.

15. And I think that will help Republicans.
It will hurt Bush, but it will "show" that Republicans are independent -- at least good enough for the rubes.

20. It's not profiling
Bush's whole complete total war authorization is that he is to chase down the perpetrators of 9-11.

Not only was the UAE a staging area, the FINANCING for the attacks came from UAE banks, AND the UAE REFUSED to cooperate with the investigation of the money trail. REFUSED!!

Beyond THAT, the UAE's "policy" towards Israel is the same as Iran's : that it should not exist.

Yeah, a big ally on the War on a feeling.
