Sen Sam Brownback to be picketed by Fred Phelps!
I love it when the wingnuts get so caught up in their hate, they forget who their friends are:

http://www.pamspaulding.com/weblog/2006/02/sam-brownback-to-be-picketed-by-phelps_21.html

Remember, Sam of the awesome 70's 'fro once told a group of businessmen he wanted to be the next Jesse Helms. Also, he will not hire openly gay people to work for him, and has a chief of staff, Robert Wasinger, who wrote in a campus magazine funded by the Heritage Foundation, that the "innocent sperm" of gay men are "forced to swim into feces."

I can't imagine why Fred would want to picket someone with those credentials.

1. ... where wheat chaff takes the place of brains....
(That place would be the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka. Poetic phrase though.)

When even a wingnut like Brownback is not wingnutty enough, you know you've fallen down the rabbit hole.

2. I love it - would be nice if we could lock these two in a room together
I wonder how long it would take before they began fellating each other.

4. That's true. Repubs are getting the brunt of his anger right now
because they're the ones in power, and thus they're responsible for the decisions he disagrees with. I can't imagine we'll ever have an administration that is homophobic enough to satisfy Rev. Phelps.

10. Even if we did
there would be another issue for him. He will always have a back up to supply him with the press he currently is getting and craves.

14. That's the ONLY thing I can imagine that would make him stop
talking about homosexuals ... the prospect of not getting any attention anymore. What other topic could he get worked up about? It would have to be something even more offensive (if that's even possible).

20. Uppity Wimmin folk!
Gotta be.

Who knows ? I think that most of us here are totally unable to think in the kind of terms you would have to to outguess him.

5. exactly
they were protesting the Bush visit to Manhattan too. Phelps hates everybody who isn't part of his church, and probably half of them too.

13. Well, Phelps is a life-long Democrat. I think the comment was
in allusion to that. How he decided on the Democratic party, I don't know. He certainly doesn't seem to agree with many of the standard Dem positions.

15. Admittedly, I can't think of one as OTT as Phelps right now.
But just because our moon-bats aren't as famous, doesn't mean they don't exist. There is a hippie here in Asheville who is just as hateful, but he prefers to live in the woods and comes to downtown every few weeks and scream at people.

I suppose if our local moon-bat decided to picket in front of soldiers funerals on behalf of consumerism, then he would be famous as well.

IMHO, Phelps is a closeted homosexual who hates himself so much that he wants someone to kill him. In this way, he can die a martyr.

Fred, before he got lucky and discovered gays.
He was in the minor leagues back then. He thought
only regional. Now the world is his playground.

18. I drove by the Westboro Hate Church just today.
I was stunned. I had to make a very rare trip to Topeka to meet with a client. We were on our way to lunch when what did I see out of my window? The Westboro church with a giant banner saying something like "http://godhatesfags.com" His family was also camped out on the corner of the cafe where we were eating with their hateful signs. They are so feckin' sick and wrong. We need to investigate and embarrass whomever is funding Fred. He has to be getting his money from somewhere.

He was an attorney too, but was disbarred quite some time ago.
