O'Reilly is a sham...........
and I refuse to get excited that Bill let Letterman, who was admittedly ignorant of many facts, verbally beat the tar out of him. It is what he wants.

I refuse to get excited because its a pyhrric victory on a few counts: First, what joy is there in further beating a beaten man? Second, what joy can be taken in the fact these interviews on shows like Letterman and TDS are really playing into the O'Reilly agenda. And here's why: First, these tar-and-featherings Bill receives gives him even more ammunition to fire on his own hour O' lies. Bill's recent appearance on TDS Here, where Bill not only added to the jingoistic fire in this country by holding up Steven Colbert's ancestry and accused him of practicing slavery, also felt the need to hit back at the audience and insult them for being wine-swillers from Marseilles, and was finally criticized for actually adding "just injury" to the domestic political scene. Shortly thereafter, O'Reilly went on to take his now famous "war on Christmas" jab at TDS, certainly emboldened by the thrashing he received at the hands of Stewart.

TDS's reaction to the swipe, here: http://mediamatters.org/items/200512080005

Now Ol' Bill steps up to the plate on Letterman. And I believe this leads credence to my argument that O'Reilly has become a willing, self-promoting whipping boy of the left, a job that he embraces with his trademark scowling rictus®, and bright, shining dollar signs in his eyes. Did he expect Letterman to give him a serious interview? Did Bill anticipate an erudite forum where he would be able to push his talking points without fear of snark reprimand at the hands of Dave. I would expect not. Dave admitted that he didn't have the whole story and was merely doing gut checks at swiping at Bill. This obnoxious, unhinged behavior is where O'Reilly feels most at home (as evidenced by nightly rants on the Factor)and will always take the opportunity (and the $$) to let some lefties punch him up a bit, just so he can give it back later on his show (where its safe).

I wish the left media would leave O'Reilly alone, and not bring him out of his little Tora-Bora studio at Fox. Bringing him out to kick around not only feeds his talking points and lathers up his base, but also feeds his wallet and enables his particular brand of hatred.

2. well said, ..people have said that he and Rush are just playing a part and
not really like that appear on their shows.. that it is just an act for the cash..

i personally can not believe that, but i have heard that from liberal types several times.

i just could not have a job where i whored for Hitler for a day job, and didn't believe what i did at work when i went home.. that is just too weird, considering the consequences of the actions..

12. Agree with OP totally, these comedic slap downs are merely fueling

O'lielly's fire. Also agree to an extent with those that say it's an act. Both Swill and Lush have deep seated anger, resentment and hatred for the left and MSM. They use it to enlarge their already huge caricature of themselves. Make no mistake about it, they are entrenched ideologues, but also highly skilled entertainers.

15. It's the same with Media Matters and the like
Edited on Wed Jan-04-06 02:10 PM by FreedomAngel82
So should they stop what they do since they're "fueling the fire"? So should David Letterman and others just shut up and let O'Reilly get away his spew?

16. They can keep doing whatever they want. But the fact is unless they
are willing and able to refute the lies with FACTS, not comedic put downs, Letterman etc are only playing to their audience for the laughs, while O'lielly uses the farce to further his POV. I enjoyed watching Letterman slap down O'lielly last night as much as the next person. But O'lielly was prepared with HIS facts. Letterman did nothing to stop "O'lielly from getting away with his spew".

14. I don't know either
Edited on Wed Jan-04-06 02:11 PM by FreedomAngel82
It's disgusting. I don't know how many here watch the "West Wing" but in season five there is a guy on there named Taylor Reid who is just like O'Reilly. On the show he is a jackass but in real life he's a fan of the press secretary CJ Cregg and is nice to her and gives her compliments. I remember seeing a video of him (O'Reilly) talking about Ben Afleck and he was getting out of a car and giving Afleck compliments. I betcha if everything was reverse politically he'd be doing it that way too.

5. You are right. It will just let OhReally pretend to be a victim
of the "looney left", who is "taking over our country".

Somehow, getting made a complete fool of and being verbally taken to pieces in front of millions of people proves that Bill is right.

How does that work?

He is going to make himself into a martar

6. O'Reilly is just getting hokey...
Any shtick will eventually wear thin, and O'Reilly is now continually patching his.

I suppose there are still a number of flag-suckers (a term used by the sorely-missed Hunter S. Thompson) who get seriously jazzed on O'Reilly's vitriol, but I think anybody half a brain now sees him for the clown he is.

wouldn't you just want one little kick at his nuts? Maybe one of those glancing blows that takes his breath away.

9. And if I may add to that...
Like just about every other issue, if the people can't decide for themselves, then helping them isn't going to matter. For example, all of these polls that "need to be unfreeped", that I see. I don't know how to put it into words, but it's not the polls that are the problem. O'Reilly isn't the problem. Bush isn't the problem. Americans are the problem. They let O'Reilly on tv. They let Bush do what he has done. I'm not saying that we give up. I'm saying that we put our attention where it matters. Wherever that is. Grassroots? Education?

10. O'Reilly and Coulter are valuable
to us. As they become more and more caricatures of bile and hate, they drive away the squishy middle. Hang conservatives with these petards. Make O'Reilly and Coulter the face of the Republicans. Show them spouting their ludicrous venom as people as innocuous as Letterman and Stewart poke them full of holes.
These two are willing pinatas for us. They want to be bashed. It's all about the exposure for Bill and Ann. Take away the attention and they'll both dry up like insect husks.

13. You gotta point
just like Pukes who try to use Michael Moore and "Hollywood types".
I got faith that fair and balanced honest average Americans will not accept and respect the vulgarity that those two creatures of human resemblance spit out.
