Abramoff scandal sends waves across Washington

By Andy Sullivan
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Lobbyist Jack Abramoff's guilty plea in a U.S. corruption probe sent shock waves across Washington on Wednesday as top Republicans sought to avoid being tainted by the scandal and Democrats pressed the issue.

(cut)

Both Republicans and Democrats received campaign funds from Abramoff, but much of the attention has been focused on former House Republican Leader Tom DeLay of Texas and Rep. Bob Ney (news, bio, voting record) of Ohio.

Democratic Sens. Byron Dorgan of North Dakota and Max Baucus of Montana have returned donations from Abramoff and his clients.

14. are you being funny?
you know there's really NO difference...except it's harder to prove quid pro quo...seriously I'm amused this case has become this big. This is pretty much business as usual on the hill. It doesn't matter if it's repubs or democrats..it's how they feed the beast. Shut down K street if we really want it stopped to "some" degree...but the money will always find the path of least resistance.

Propping up Bush and his political cronies is not the media's job.

7. From What I Understand
Only Republicans received cash in Abramoff's name. Democrats received money that had been laundered through Indian Tribes and other organizations. So, it looks like Abramoff knew that his name would poison any cash given to a Dem, so he laundered it. This way, if caught, he could say he corrupted both sides......

9. Dorgan...
http://www.kfyrtv.com/News_Stories.asp?news=664

Dorgan is still dismissing allegations that he took money in exchange for helping Indian tribes associated with Abramoff. Dorgan`s involvement with the lobbyist began in 2001, when the Senator held a fundraiser at a skybox owned by Abramoff. Dorgan says he didn`t know at the time that the skybox belonged to Abramoff. Between 2002 and 2003, Dorgan received money from several Indian tribes that worked with Abramoff. In 2005, Abramoff refused to answer questions from a Senate committee headed by Dorgan. After an Associated Press story suggested that donations to Dorgan were in exchange for political favors, he denied any wrongdoing, and returned the money last month.
