Bush's first veto will be...
...to make sure the UAE gets the port contract.
He said he will veto any attempt by Congress to stop it.

The UAE

*Deals in child slave and sex trade.
*Washed looted Iraq money following invasion and during the confusion; for Al Qaeda.
*Monies to fund 9/11 were funneled through the UAE banking system.
*2 of the 9/11 hijackers called UAE home.
*80% of the country is made up of foreigners.
*Distributed nuclear weapons technology, via A Q Khan, to Iran and N. Korea.
*No women's rights.
*Anti democratic.
*Only the Islamic faith is allowed.
*1 of only 3 countries to ever recognize the Taliban as legitimate.
*Does not recognize Israel.

----

That is who our "wartime president" stands behind.
Not us and our principles of freedom, democracy, and decency.
He has outsourced us down the river.

2. I don't think he's do it. Somehow he'll find "some new info" that
he didn't have in the past so he's NOW convinced to reject the deal. Shrub is BIG in the noise and threat dept. but there's no way he's going to risk having his FIRST veto overturned!

5. He'll pay them back some other way.
The only other option I can think of is that he either bribes or threatens the Pubs to change their minds and go along with him. The reason I don't think that would work is because they're worried about maintaining comtrol of both houses, and Shrub's a lame duck! And an unpopular one at that!

12. This is starting to remind me of Bitburg
Bush will veto and get overridden and the UAE will not be so embarrassed because he tried his best. Meanwhile Republican and Democratic congressmen will be all able to say that they stood up to Bush when he was wrong. It's a win-win for everyone, but Bush will take the bullet.

6. Nah, he'll do the same thing he did with the anti-torture bill...
He'll add a "signing statement" which will give him an exception with his "executive power" to allow this deal to go through, taking away any teeth it would have and in effect not allowing an override to a veto. That's the way the unitary executive works! And the current supreme court won't fight him on this!

14. I think some here are so astonished at this port fiasco
Edited on Thu Feb-23-06 08:39 AM by niallmac
they suspect Bush of all people is some sort of an evil genius using this to give his party traction in the polls as anti chimp. I don't think so. The repugs honor money over
humanity. Dubai is money. Dubai is family. They can't help themselves. Screwing principal for some extra billions is their nature. They could not act otherwise
even if they knew it would save their political necks. It is unbelievable but I have been watching these ass hats all my life and my take is that their selfishness and
greed is still beyond my ability to truly appreciate. No evil genius here, just salt of the earth Republican values.
