Anyone who punches a time clock or wears a nametag at work...
Should study this list of speakers scheduled to speak here this Saturday in Warren Ohio at the save our jobs rally for Delphi workers:

Political speakers will include three area U.S. Congressmen
Timothy J. Ryan, D-Niles
Ted Strickland, D-Lisbon
Sherrod Brown, D-Lorain
along with state Sen. Marc Dann, D-Liberty.

Perhaps our local Republican politicians can get a chance to speak at an upcoming "Cut the Minimum Wage" rally or something.

If a Representative of the GOP shows up he or she may not get the warmest of receptions at first, but once he pounds on the podium, points at us, and bellows that he will stand for us against outsourcing and for decent wages....I think he'd do OK.

Maybe the Ohio Republicans all have appointments with their attorneys that day.

1. ***snicker!***
so funny... and somehow, some of these employees who work at places like the Delphi plant, where their wages are gonna get slashed, still vote for Republicans... AMAZINGLY sad.

2. Dude, that's low
You snicker as you say it's sad
What's SAD is that the Democratic Party, the party that purports to speak for the working man, has been fucking over workers since the 90s.

What's sad is that, Red State areas tend to drive American made cars more than Blue State areas.

5. I live here in Warren....I'm a Delphi retiree
Edited on Thu Feb-23-06 01:12 AM by JohnnyRingo
Which is like saying I'm between jobs.

I've lived here all my life. The Lordstown Chevy plant is 20 miles away.
The Mahoning Valley economy is heavily union supported and we overwhelmingly drive what we build.

The Democratic party here has always shown up to offer support in the face of corporate cuts. They dare to speak up for us and our valley in the halls of congress.
The Republican Reps show up after a new parts store or lemonade stand opens for the photo-op. As if they swung some deal to bring jobs here.

The list of reps above speaks volumes for the workers here, and it should to hard working voters across the country. Enough is enough with the corporate friendly atmosphere introduced with this Republican led government

And before you blame Clinton for introducing NAFTA, ask yourself why it sounds so much like a Republican idea:

9. Both Parties REPRESENT CORPORATE INTERESTS
When are people going to wake up!

Your local democratic party reps in Southeast Michigan have to come out and support unions.
But when you get down to it, the Democratic Party has turned into what the Republicans Represented in the early 80s. Fiscal responsibility, yada yada. Free trade, yada yada. Kicking moms off welfare. Tax cuts for the middle class (Be honest, Dems, if you're going to have spending programs, tax EVERYONE).

The Dems are battling for the MIDDLE CLASS. Not the working class.

8. I don't recognize the Democratic Party you describe...
I know, from all of my years of working on campaigns, that we stand shoulder to shoulder with the unions and the working people. It's the Democrats that are screaming about watching our jobs going overseas.. daily. You have a chip on your shoulder about Democrats, and I can only guess you know little, if anything, about what the Democrats fought for in the 90's, only to watch it snatched away by a bunch of greedy religious fanatics in the last two elections.

10. At a grassroots level, sure
I have no bones with the grassroots party.
I have bones with Leadership. Particularly the god awful DLC, which is completely under the control of corporate interests.

4. Spending a life time, 47 years, in a GM town I've dealt with the GM/Delphi
workers. They bought into the Reagan lie plan and simple. Even though they are union workers they are also the most anti-union as long as it don't effect them workers. We are talking about the white GM worker on this, btw. The black and latino workers are strongly union democratic people. Growing up in and around white GM/Delphi workers I've seen and heard where the majority of them stood. They are the ones voting repuke mainly because they think by cutting welfare it will save them in tax dollars. Now remember GM/Delphi workers are not very well educated, most didn't even get a high school or GED diploma before going to work at the factories and foundries. Then in the late 70's, a lot of these workers also became either alcoholics, drug addicts or they became born agains, usually after drying out from alcohol or drug addictions. From 1965 until just a few months ago all I've from family and GM/Delphi friends is the blame game. In the 60's it was blacks and mexicans taking their jobs, then it was women in the 70's, today its black women with hispanic sir names thats taking their jobs. Most GM/delphi workers are still playing at being the school yard bullies they were when they were young, the world owes them type thinking. They vote for pukes mainly out of meanness and racial hate.

7. I have to admit to knowing more people like you describe
...than I care to.

Although this area in NE Ohio is still strongly Democrat (2 to 1 for Kerry '04). I do have some friends and acquaintances who vote with racial bias and meanness. They do have a better than thou attitude, and substance abuse probably runs quite high among employees.

I know they're in a distinct minority here, though they're most noticeable because they make the most noise.

I guess something's are the same everywhere though.
