I'm going to be sick ...

THE WHITE HOUSE
Office of the Press Secretary
January 13, 2006

RELIGIOUS FREEDOM DAY, 2006
BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION

The right to religious freedom is a foundation of America. On Religious Freedom Day, our Nation celebrates the passage of the 1786 Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom and the protection of religious freedom in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.
Our Founding Fathers knew the importance of freedom of religion to a stable democracy, and our Constitution protects individuals' rights to worship as they choose. We reject religious discrimination in every form, and we continue our efforts to oppose prejudice and to counter any infringements on religious freedom.

1. To me the news is that you actually have something as
"The Department of State's Office of International Religious Freedom". In the typical Orwellian speak of your administration that's probably the people who are trying to stir up religious hatred all over the world right now.

Keep to your own country. When and IF the rest of the world really misses any religious freedom they can do something about it.

We don't need you. We don't WANT you.

3. Yes, I'm sure the gay men who were
charged with crimes for just being gay would beg to differ.

Just like the people in this country who understand that some people won't be enjoying the same freedoms as others.

4. bleech
This from a country that has no synagogues (I can't find anything stating they even have a Jewish population) and no Buddhist temples. Although, the UAE is much better than some of her neighbors.

7. This is not to argue that there IS religious freedom in the UAE...
but the mere fact that there are no synagogues or buddhist temples or sweat lodges or whatever in any given country must not be proof that there is no religious freedom. There could very well be religious freedom (once again, I don't think so in the case of the UAE) - and people just happen to have all chosen the same religion. As was the case in most countries in the old days. :)

8. True...
...but why are there no synagogues?

The UAE does have a very small Buddhist population, most of whom pray in their homes and are not disturbed. I credit the UAE for that.
