New information on the Mosque bombing: The People Arrested
From al Jazeerah:

The Interior Ministry said four men, one wearing a military uniform and three clad in black, entered the mosque and detonated two bombs, one of which collapsed the dome into a crumbly mess and damaged part of the shrine's northern wall.

Police said late Wednesday afternoon no casualties had been found.

U.S. and Iraqi forces in Samarra surrounded the shrine and searched nearby houses. Five police officers responsible for protecting the mosque were taken into custody, said Col. Bashar Abdullah, chief of police commandoes.

So now we know that 5 of the people arrested, which are obviously suspects in the bombing, were Iraqi police officers. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the police officers trained by U.S. Troops? I know that correlation does not equal causality, but this is not a good developement, from perspective of Iraqi public "perception".

1. Remember this?
British special forces running around Basra in Arabic dress planting bombs, shooting at police:

In another example of how the Iraqi quagmire is deliberately designed to degenerate into a chaotic abyss, British SAS were caught attempting to stage a terror attack and the media have dutifully shut up about the real questions surrounding the incident.

What is admitted is that two British soldiers in Arab garb and head dress drove a car towards a group of Iraq police and began firing. According to the Basra governor Mohammed al-Waili, one policeman was shot dead and another was injured. Pictured below are the wigs and clothing that the soldiers were wearing.

4. I thought about this when I first heard which mosque and how important it
was - coupled with the (mis)Administration announcement a few days ago about how they weren't going to support a sectarian government. Seemed like an easy way to stir up the pot

5. We also know they've been talking to some groups over there
Seems like the timing is at the very least very coincidental.

3. Forbes has this article also
http://www.forbes.com/work/feeds/ap/2006/02/22/ap2543984.html

The Interior Ministry said four men, one wearing a military uniform and three in black, entered the mosque early Wednesday and detonated two bombs, one of which collapsed the dome and damaging part of the northern wall of the shrine.

Police believed an unknown number of people may have been buried under the debris after the 6:55 a.m. explosion at the Askariya mosque. The shrine contains the tombs of two revered Shiite imams, both descendants of the Prophet Muhammad.

In Baghdad, National Security Adviser Mouwafak al-Rubaie blamed religious zealots such as the al-Qaida terror network, telling Al-Arabiya television that the attack was an attempt "to pull Iraq toward civil war."

I didn't realise "religious zealots such as the al-Qaida terror network" wore military uniforms.

7. We also know the Iraqis have been so desperate for recruits
that people who are barely concealed or openly insurgents have been hired. That's been reported over and over.

I never cease to be amazed by the innocent racism that simply can't imagine that anyone brown can plot anything big.

WE ARE NOT THE PRIME MOVERS OR ANYTHING OF IMPORTANCE OVER THERE. We are just foreign invaders. The fight is between groups who have hated each other for over a thousand years. We are nothing to them. This is the civil war that would have happened when Saddam died. HE, that brutal man, was preventing it.

Gosh, we're clever.

9. Rebels have stated they didn't carry out Mosque attack
There's another thread round here on it. Since when did rebels in Iraq start denying they'd carried out an attack? Usually, almost immediately after such an attack all sorts of groups try to claim responsibility.
