2. About 85-90% of callers against ports deal but Republicans seem confused. |
|
The Republican callers for the deal are the typical "Bush is our president and he is protecting us " sort and the "My husband works for a refinery owned by the A-Rhabs and they do a good job of running the refinery" or "this is just the liberal media trying to bring down the Bush administration, just another (non)story like the Cheney story from last week."

4. This is really striking a chord with the GOP base. |
|
So Democratic leaders, please feel free to pander away. This is a no-win situation for the GOP.

5. Be Careful...I Smell A Rovian Trap |
|
I posted this several times yesterday and the crickets chirping here put me to sleep. Seems like Howard "The Duck" Fineman is one of the few who sees the same things I do...and it could be a trap.
This is Harriet Meier's "Rope-A-Dope". I'll bet a bright shiny dime tomorrow afternoon we'll hear there was some "grand meeting" with asshat, Frist, Hastert and other "congressional leaders" (translation: No Democrats allowed) and viola...there'll be some great "compromise" that an "American" company will come in to take over these ports. Of course, this "American" company will be a subsidiary of the Carlisle Group and the principals involved in the money end of this deal will be the same, just the name on the ownership papers will "look American".
Remember, Rove has put it in our face...security is the issue he plans to ram up our asses, and this is one way he's doing it. Congresscritters need to get away from Abramoff and the Iraq war and play the fear card as their best hope of winning this November, and this set up could help them...not hurt them. boooosh will back down (or appear to be) and the Congresscritters will then go running back home to their Savage and Hewitt listeners and claim how they stood up for the "real conservatives"...and play a pretend game of "showing balls" against the regime. All the while, the backroom deal lined up by Snow and others will fly through and Rove has turned a negative into a positive.
Atop that...expect these Congresscritters to want to help this American company to "compete" with the other countries. How to do this? Well subsidies and big tax breaks, of course...so we, the American taxpayer, can enusre our American ports remain under "American" control. Yep...we'll get it up the butt and then are supposed to be grateful to these Repugnican buttplugs when they hand billions over to these robber barons.
Democrats need to stay alert on this and not get so far ahead on this story they get swept away when the switcheroo is pulled. We all delighted when we though Harriet Meiers was going to rip the Repugnican apart. Is that what happened? No, we got ScAlito...which is what this regime wanted all along. If this ploy worked the last time, Rove's gonna do it again and again until it plays out.
