Has the gauntlet been thrown down?
Oregon's Measure 37, if upheld, will allow development at the expense of the environment.

Georgia's state legislature passed a bill allowing the ten commandments to be displayed in public buildings.

South Dakota's state legislature passed a bill outlawing all abortions with the only exception being if the mother's life (not health) is in danger.

IMO, all three will sail through the current SCOTUS. Has the gauntlet been thrown down? Is this where we declare full-scale war against the freepers? We need to nip this now before it snowballs.

1. We've been having a cold war with conservatives for the last ten years.
But they've been working underground for about twenty.

2. Well, if I were Roberts as Chief Justice...

I would probably be very concerned about the floodgates having been thrown wide open. If he and Alito, Scalia (and the water boy, Thomas) have any sense whatsoever, they will vote down some of these more extreme cases right off the back to set a "line in the sand." Otherwise, and without any threshold whatsoever, they are just going to be inundated with more extreme cases one right after another.

While I don't credit them as a group with much, I would still have to think they would want to preserve some defensibility to the court's actions and precedents, even if they raise the threshold in many areas. We shall see.

3. I agree, they aren't going to throw open the gates right off the bat
They'll want to present some face of fairness to the American people, and not invite a flood of frivilous agendas to befall them.

Good Lord, how did we ever allow this to happen? Stupid American people, pay attention for Pete's sake! Quit thinking your freedom can't be taken away from you!! Remember what our Founding Fathers said and live by their statements!!!

4. Wistful thinking on your part.
Kiss it all goodbye! Everything we have fought for toothy & nail for the last fifty years is to be undone in a flash, watch & weep.

5. In a word, yes.
and all of the fundies who have been pouring money into the Republican coffers are not going to sit around and "wait" any longer. The bill has come due.
