Iraq blog:"120 mosques have been blown up, set ablaze..."
This is from a pro Iraq war/freeper visited blog...

http://iraqthemodel.blogspot.com

In the aftermath of the shrine attack...

Today is a day off in Iraq, emergency situation now officially declared with extended curfews 8pm-6am.

Sistani has been calling for restraint and calm but it seems that some Shia factions are not listening to him but instead they are listening to their direct references or acting on their own.

Spokesmen of the Islamic Party and Muslim Scholars claim more than 120 mosques have been blown up, set ablaze or came under small arms and RPG fire including the Um al-Qura mosque which is the HQ of the Association of Muslim Scholars which came under several drive-by shootings.

...

Baghdad looks more alive today but in a very cautious way, traffic in the streets is heavier than it was yesterday but still way below normal.
There's some kind of shopping frenzy because people are trying to be prepared if the worst happens; people are stock-piling small reserves of food, cigarettes, bottled water…etc especially after they heard some of the roads to/from Baghdad are closed and vehicles were turned away.

...

The situation is still very tense but the good thing is that the Sunni have not returned the attacks and I hope the Shia have satisfied their vengeance by now because I don't want to even think of what can happen if this situation lasts longer than this.

2. I hear 75, 100, now 125 anyone give me 150? Do I hear 150?
Face it. No one really knows how many it really is. But, it is clear that the violence is widespread, semi coordinated, and muslim against muslim.

This isn't slipping toward civil war, this IS civil war.

7. Sorry the soldiers are part of the problem
Without the soldiers, Bush and Blair couldn't have launched their illegal actions, additionally, those soldiers who have abused and tortured detainees, as well as those who have raped and murdered their captives had a duty to refuse to carry out illegal orders.

Far too many people say that any crimes carried out by the soldiers should be excused, and it is only the leaders who should be prosecuted, while I agree that the leaders should be prosecuted as well, people should not attempt to make excuses for war criminals and human rights abusers.

5. Don't Ever forget this......... "They will NEVER forget this desecration"
our over view of the way the world works here in the west does not apply to Islam, or the their culture. when i was in tribal ares in an Islamic Republic in 73, people held blood grudges for minor transgressions all the way back to the days of the Prophet.. remember the opening scene to Lawrence of Arabia... well,.. that shit is real and it still festers there, as it always will.

we totally screwed up the whole world invading an islamic nation, there will be hell to pay for a long long time.

8. That is a very pro-republican blog
Edited on Thu Feb-23-06 10:58 AM by jim3775
Look at it's links:

Radio Sawa (bush propaganda)
Instapundit
Little Green Footballs
Lucianne
Michelle Malkin
Political Teen, The
Power Line
Stop The ACLU
MEMRI TV

Here is an article about it that hints at the possibility that is is pure propaganda.

Edit: I'm not saying that what was posted ins't true, I just wanted to point out its major bias.

12. It may be RW, but it's completely plausible that the
ulema association is reporting those numbers. Take issue with the content, not the source, unless the source is being touted as a great authority.

In this case, I *do* take issue with the source: the association spokeman that's reporting the numbers (last night CST it was pushing 100, not 120) has every reason to inflate the numbers. It both increases the sense of wrong that so many tribal folk love to wallow in, increases the shame they impart to their rivals, and shores up their base. He has every reason to exaggerate. (I'll avoid the word 'lie' because it presupposes that people wouldn't automatically discount his claim: it's rather like haggling at a market, you don't accuse the seller of lying without absolute proof, you expect him to 'lie' by current American trade standards, and name-calling is likely to lead to a breakdown in the negotiation if done too soon.) He might be right. But I'm skeptical--not because of the conduit, but because of the source.

As for the conduit: member of Pajamamedia.
