This quote by Richard Perle just about sums up the Bush administration's deal to put a Dubai-based UAE government company in charge of US ports. He is talking about his involvement with the Committee on Foreign Investment in the US, which approved the deal:

"The committee almost never met, and when it deliberated it was usually at a fairly low bureaucratic level." <2> He also added, "I think it's a bit of a joke if we were serious about scrutinizing foreign ownership and foreign control, particularly since 9/11."
