Katrina report(White House) recommends clearer Pentagon role
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Pentagon should have a clearer role in responding to future disasters like hurricane Katrina, the White House said on Thursday in a review offering 125 recommendations for improving emergency management.

The recommendation was among 125 the review made for President George W. Bush, who has been widely criticized for his administration's response. The review identified 11 changes it said should be implemented before June 1, the start of the next hurricane season.

Recommendations included making sure federal, state and local officials were working together and in close proximity in the event of another disaster.

In cases where there are advance warnings, ensuring that an interagency Federal Joint Field Office is in place to coordinate and direct federal support.

The review also called for embedding a Defense Department contact at the Joint Field Office and Federal Emergency Management Agency regional offices to improve coordination of military resources.

3. There is something about directly involving the Pentagon in a
natural disaster setting that makes me uneasy and I'm not sure that it's reasonable to feel that way. It just seems that this action would give a lot of power to the military to completely take over in a situation and make the declaration of martial law much more likely. Am I being paranoid?

4. When you think they can't be as stupid as they appear...
Let's increase government again....

FEMA worked before they screwed it up...they had coordination with the military...and with local state and city governments

The Pentegon being involved would probably guarantee more press blackouts and cover ups.

The Pentegon has failed badly in Iraq....Don Rumsfeld is directly involved with the Pentegon....need I say more...
