On lefty fears port deal dust up helps repubs in 06' elections. |
|
I've heard a few theories floating around about how this deal benefits the Repubs because they can put light between themselves and Bush.
These theories fail to address the fundamentals of American politics IMO.
The base will always vote Republican, but they will vote in lower numbers if they are disgusted with their party's policies. It will help that their congressmen appose Bush on this, but they are disillusioned.
The middle will identify all repubs by what Bush does, for the most part.
The left will be energized.
As usual the left is over thinking this.

1. If the right is disgusted, they just might stay home |
|
The ones who can't bear to cross party lines will simply fail to vote. That works for me, frankly.

It's important to remember that the vast majority of Americans do not follow the news to the detail we do.
This is bad for Republicans in the general sense. It's possible that some specific candidates will benifit from it, but unlikely.
Americans know it's time for change.

3. but if people feel they have been used |
|
then they may change their vote. My neighbor did. He was a Republican and voted for Bush in 2000. The War and B's handling of it turned him around 1000%. He is a vet and saw combat and was injured in Vietnam.
I think the glue holding on the veneer is weakening.

4. You know, the Republicans and B*sh remind me of my shower stall. |

The tiles look all shiny and clean but, underneath, the drywall that holds them in place is moldy, blackened, and about to disintegrate.

...no matter how much fresh air the Republicans try to put between the chimp and themselves.
