I have a problem with a statistic that ISN'T a STATISTIC, but is presented as one. You virtually acknowledge that the number given is ludicrous, but you rely on the words, "UP TO," to maintain your hyperventilating outrage. I could ask you what YOU think "up to" refers to, since you take it so seriously. Of course, you would be pulling a number out of your butt at this point. But you don't seem to care about that. Not a believable number, considering the total population of Scotland.

I suspect that 20/day would be about the maximum physically possible, about one every half-haour for a ten hour day.

...complete with tits on page three. I'm Scottish, and I can assure you that there are only about 400,000 people in Glasgow, counting all women and children (maybe 50,000 adult men). Edinburgh, the capital city, has much less and there's only 5 million people (men women and children) scattered all over the country in total.

The numbers are impossible to believe, and hey, it's the Daily Record, fer x's sake!

important story though. This kind of thing is going on all over the world, not just in Scotland and Bangkok and Dubai--predatory trafficking happens in every country. Nothing effective can be done unless we make an effort to stop it worlwide.

Not sure how to go about it. I suppose the article annoyed me a bit because it seems like the police are focusing their "prevention" efforts at the prey and not the predators.
It's the same as arresting the prostitutes but not the pimps and the johns.

which are used here for sensational effect, while not actually telling a lie. 60 per day is a huge amount, but it's possible that someone was forced to do it. That would make it 'up to' 60 a day for all prostitutes. Sometimes the math is irrelevant.

actual human trafficking, where it actually occurs, needs to be addressed? however, hysteria, sensationalism, misinformation, and the disappearance of critical thinking in news and on the part of news consumers is ALSO a problem. you see this kind of garbage and misinformation every couple of weeks here at DU, often posted by the same people who deal in repressed memories and satanic cult conspiracies. there are groups that are obsessed with these sorts of stories and conspiracies, and it does not matter to them if the facts don't fit. this kind of misinformation and hyperbole should not be on the news board--it deserves to be pointed out as the nonsense it is. yes, real human trafficking, where it occurs, matters. the TRUTH also matters, and this particular example is garbage.
