On the phony "racism" accusation (Dubai/ports)
I guess that 'racism' is what El Rushbo and some other folks are crying, about the opposition to UAE controlling the compnay that runs our ports...

Well, I have an idea. Would El Rushbo agree to let France control the company that runs our ports, instead? We could then eliminate the race issue completely.

Think he'd support it, if it was France?

8. The UK banking system never moved funds to the 911 hijackers
The UK banking system and government didn't fail to cooperate with the FBI in following the money...

The UK never recognized and funded the Taliban...

The UK was never a transshipment point for nuclear materials transfer to Libya, North Korea, Pakistan and Iran....

But oh, boo-hoo, it's all about racism, and not allowing a "government" that consists of seven friken warlords who own EVERYTHING in the UAE, a dictatorship that doesn't allow elections, to run a US national security asset AND keep all the paperwork offshore, so that if they do screw up, we can't follow the money, track their activities, or even have a shred of accountability.

Horseshit!

2. Bush's base is being racist,
the rest of us are worried about our country being sold off to foreign countries, piece by piece.

3. And the real kicker here
Edited on Thu Feb-23-06 02:05 PM by XemaSab
is that if you go over to FReep, they're TERRIBLY racist against Arabs and Muslims in general.

Man, I read a thread there today about Christians killing Muslims in Nigeria, and HOLY COW it was filled with the WORST vitriol I've ever seen, how we should send the Christians guns so they can kill all the Muslims... seriously.

It's like the KKK calling the NAACP racist.

Here's the link, bring lots of

10. This one goes WAAAAAY over the line
I posted a link on edit.

I just don't get how these people can be SO ignorant about Islam and Arab culture. In college, I had two Muslim roommates, a Bosnian and a Malaysian, and they were both very decent, normal people. You'd also never know they were Muslim unless they told you.

But some of these FReepers are making it like the Bosnians were the aggressors in the war.

Complete and total ignorance.

4. I take this argument:
If an Arab went to apply for a job at a security company and they found via the background check that he had a criminal record, would they have to hire him? I don't think so. Replace "Arab" with any group name, and the argument is the same. This concern has to do with the track record of the UAE government in regards to the security of their own port!

6. Yes, the ruling elite in Dubai used to hunt with Bin Laden and the Taliban
as well as being a major center for terrorist money laundering, and trafficing in all sorts of illicit goods, but this is all about race.

12. This is clearly a ploy to throw liberal critics of the sale off base.
Liberals are too willing to second guess themselves when accused of racism.
Considering all of the administration's playing to the image of the scary arab (mushroom cloud, etc) it is more than disingenuous of them to use this line of attack.

11. Racism? A little, not much at all. Forest from the trees. YOU BET.
There are a few people making the point that UAE is an Arabic country.

So What? It's a straw man argument that unfortunately some people buy into.

I think we all know what is really important and at stake. But these types of charges are salacious and always will get coverage.
