I'm done..
I just called Sen. Nelson's office and to "give my opinion" of the Port deal.. The girl on the other end of the phone was so dismissive, like it was a joke.. I was so polite, and she giggled at me like I was a joke.. I'm having a hard time believing that anyone in this country gives a shit.. I can't do this anymore.. If members of our own party thinks this is a laughing matter, I don't see much hope for the future.. I'm normally one of the happiest people you'd ever want to meet.. My country is crumbling, and I am heartbroken.. I tried for so long to believe that it's going to be okay, but I just can't believe that anymore.. It's all over except for the shouting..

I feel your pain...
I know what you're saying...It's kind of sad, I know. We're just a country that doesn't give a shit. We never have, and never will UNLESS it deals with something tangible to us that will effect us DIRECTLY (like taxes).

By the way, Converted. As you start to perhaps re-evaluate things in the past, I recommend looking at Katrina, Tora Bora, and the Iraq invasion.

10. The sad part is that he used to be a really decent guy. I met him in 72.
I was a college freshman, getting ready to vote for the first time. He was running for his first elected office. I was a repub back then, but was still impressed enough to vote for him many times over the years.

I'm not quite sure where he went wrong...

11. Hi There... Weren't We Just Having A Conversation At Another
thread??? Check it out!! Bill Nelson isn't MY IDEA of a Senator and I wish we had someone else to run in his place! I've often contacted them, by email and calling. I usually get the regular "auto response" from emails!

I'm on his email list and he does send out messages, but geez he's one of those who just puts his finger in the air to see which way the shit is blowing. I went to rallies during the election and he was featured with both Kerry & Edwards, but as soon as Martinez won he couldn't wait to come out and say that they were friends and he looked forward to working with him!!

He's also a very HUGE Christian type who goes to "secret" Christian meetings in D.C.! I used to have that info but got rid of it. "madfloridian" help me out and PM "converted_democrat" because you were the one who sent that information to me. You're ALWAYS so informative!

we have lost our right to super power. we have lost our title of great nation. but there is always the chance to create and build, in strength, honest, new.......

this is my childrens future. i cant/wont/dont ever give up.

you either, i bet

but, my space, every single day is filled with family, love lite friendship kindness gentleness understanding compassion laughter joy

what comes tomorrow i welcome, in that i and mine are that capable. and it is another day i am alive. and in love.

44. no problem. i do address life, that i will deal with what comes
might as well, we really have no other choice but to ignore, i guesss, or pretend it isnt there. i do have the attitude of dealing with the now. now i am dealing with all this shit before we are there. i do see us going to no abortion. and we will have to deal with that. women will die, they will kill themselves, they will use coat hangers, we know this from history. this is why we made them legal in the first place. bush has fucked up the nation, the religious right has a strangle hold on the sheep. that is where we are now. until we start waking the sheep this nation will continue to decay. reality. but even in decay, do you give up? the is always hope and opportunity. even if this nation crumbles, there is the opportunity to rebuild. and a decade or more, maybe the world we rebuild will be grander,.... for my children to raise their kids in. continuing to create love, peace, grace in my environment will create children into adults that take their world seriously and will be there to help in the healing.

24. Nope, don't take it. Call back and DEMAND to speak to
someone in charge of staff or better yet the Chief of Staff (unlikely, but you can try), and complain in no uncertain terms about the dismissive crap from this young giggling idiot. And demand that something be done about her treatment of constituents. Threaten to write a Letter to the Editor complaining about the treatment, and to keep writing letters of complaints every single week unless you get satisfaction on this.

DO NOT ROLL OVER AND TAKE IT. Please. It's only your country you're losing, you know. Don't let a little know-nothing like you encountered stop you.

I saw Nelson on the 700 club the other day, with that whacko who runs it.

Nelson fit right in. You are the company you keep.

Just like I saw the Attorney General Gonzales doing an interveiw with sean hannity today. Can you imagine? Hannity is the most extremist type I can think of and that bunch does interveiws with these people. Its bizarre. Think about the most left wing person you can think of. Then think about all the Democrats granting him interveiws or chumming up with him. Can you imagine the vitriol they would be spewing about us?

40. I LOVE that quote in your sig line. I copied it into my "great quotes"
file.

Hey, look, if people like him hung in there, we can, too.

BTW - if you get no satisfaction from Nelson, use one of the TOLL-FREE numbers and call Barbara Boxer's office. Or in the House of Reps, Henry Waxman's office, Jim McDermott's office, John Conyers' office, Charlie Rangel's office, Maxine Waters' office. There are many who'll be more courteous and receptive. Like even the people in Chuck Hagel's office. He's a Republican, but he's a moderate, and I've had some thoroughly satisfying conversations with his people. Evidently, they've been sat down and told to be respectful and courteous to Democrats who call in, too, and they don't treat you like you're some silly little malcontent or something.

Go back to that "Don't Give Up" thread linked farther up on this one. Read some more, here. Give yourself an hour off and just relax and read. We've got your back, and we'll help you to overcome your discouragement.

As Howard Dean said, early-on, the only way we lose is if we give up. And that would suit kkkarl rove JUST FINE. You want to hand him even MORE ill-gotten gain? I didn't think so.

43. The quote is from his Nobel Acceptance Speech, December 10, 1986
http://www.eliewieselfoundation.org/ElieWiesel/speech.html

That quote affects me to the very depths of my soul. How can one justify a life that forgets/abandons those who need us desperately? What is such a life worth?

And yes, if Elie Wiesel never gave up after living through so much horror, so much horror, how on earth can anyone else??? How can one even consider it???
