Military rebuffed FBI Guantanamo worries: files

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - FBI agents accused military personnel at the Guantanamo prison of using illegal "aggressive interrogation tactics" on detainees but senior military officials rejected FBI concerns, documents made public on Thursday showed.

An FBI agent described in one document witnessing two military investigators interrogating a detainee while showing him homosexual pornography movies and using a strobe light in the room.

The agent said military interrogators routinely masqueraded as FBI agents while subjecting detainees to interrogations lasting 16 to 18 hours using tactics such as wrapping them in the Israeli flag and bombarding them with constant loud music.

FBI agents at the prison expressed concern to agency officials in a May 30, 2003, memo about the actions of military interrogators and the rejection of the agents' concerns by the Guantanamo prison commander at the time.

5. 63% of the American people oppose torture "under any circumstances."

May '04. And don't ever forget it.

UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

That's the America I know and love! An America in which the majority are decent people, who love justice and fairness, and stick to their sense of ethics and lawfulness despite relentless propaganda and fearmongering. An America in which remedies are possible, because the great majority of people have progressive views like this.

There are always bad apples and various kinds of fascists. They haven't in the past risen to the top, and set an example of utter immorality and lawlessness, with complete impunity--as they are now.

So, please be careful with statements like, "Americans are insane." The Bush junta is insane--and traitorous and bloodthirsty and greedy beyond belief. This is simply not true of most Americans--and I can prove it to you with poll after poll on every important issue as well as approval of Bush/Cheney.

The great American majority is disempowered, and, above all, DISENFRANCHISED. But it does not support torture. It does not--and never did--support the Iraq war. In fact, it opposes all Bush policy, foreign and domestic, way up in the 60% to 70% range. They just haven't gotten the word yet on the fraudulent election system (rightwing Bushite corporations "counting" all the votes with 'TRADE SECRET,' PROPRIETARY programming code, and virtually no audit/recount controls). Biggest black hole in the so-called "news."
