The "Democrats are racist" meme has invaded the blogosphere
I saw it on Mike Luckovich's blog: http://www.ajc.com/opinion/content/shared-blogs/ajc/luckovich/entries/2006/02/22/right_man_for_t.html

I saw it reading several news stories.

And I heard it from Al Franken's ditto head jerk asshole buddy Mark Luther today.

You know what? I am racist.

I'm racist against people, when trying to make a credible argument, who pull the race card when all else fails.

There is nothing racist about being against the UAE ports issue.

The racism lies in the hearts of the ignorant wingers who can't present a coherent argument supporting something they supposedly feel so strongly about.

Since 2001? Us or the radical right? I rest my case.

5. I told everyone the second that this story broke...
That train is never late...

The short response to that:

If the country in question was NOT an undemocratically ruled theocracy, that openly recognized the Taliban as Afghanistan's only legitimate government, had 2 of their nationals as 9-11 hijackers, had FBI investigated ties to 9-11, openly laundered money for AL-Qaeda, and openly blocked our attempts to find Osama Bin Laden while he hid out in their country shortly after the world trade center bombings, I probably would not be raising as huge a fuss.

Although I would still rather see an American based company buy it, instead of watching this slow process of gentrification currently taking place.

6. It wont work. Most Repubs and moderates really ARE racist towards Arabs
At worst, these moderates & Repubs will AGREE with our "Democratic racism." Of course, I'm talking aobut "thinking" bigots, not people who agree with everything Bush does no matter what.

Everyone else will know it's B.S.

It wont fly- people dont like Middle Eastern culture in this country. A perception (false or otherwise) that elected Democrats share this apprehension will not hurt DEMS.

15. True, but in this case, their target audience wont mind the "racism"
Anyone else will know it's B.S. I cant see it working at all, except for Rush listeners...

Even some Rush listeners are saying to themselves- "Whats wrong with being racist? I thought I was supposed to hate these "towel heads" too..."

9. OK, let me see if I've got this straight.
- The UAE was one of only 3 countries to recognize the Taliban as the official government of Afghanistan

- Most of the money that funded the 9/11 terrorists was funneled through the UAE

- Two of the 9/11 hijackers were from the UAE

- Nuclear weapons material on its way to Iran, North Korea and Libya made stops in the UAE

- Members of one of the UAE's ruling families went hunting with Osama bin Laden in early 1999

So, why am I a racist again?

11. Republicans aren't racists
they hate everyone. It's easier for them that way. And it allows them a clear view of a suspected piece of sawdust in the democrats' eyes, without any concern for the red wood in their own.

13. Karl Rove has been very effective. This will get the right wingers who
would most likely be worried about all kinds of border issues to sell away their rights so they can score one off the Democrats.

These people and their "public relations" are clever. Chomsky would have a field day with this,

20. Are you sure about this?
Luckovich is strongly anti-Bush and anti-Iraq war.

If he said this, he was either making a lousy joke or he was taken waaaaay out of context.

18. This is the RW talking point. Saw the beginning of this on
freeperville. Even though most of them were totally against this UAE thing, they were constantly talking about how the Dems are now "profiling" (racism).

It's a joke. All you have to do is explain why the UAE is not the country for this job.

-2 hijackers were from there
-UAE was a "pass-thru" for hijackers and they used banks in UAE. When our CIA asked to see the bank records, we were denied. (reference is Randi Rhodes).
-UAE is one of the only countries that recognizes the Taliban as the official rulers of Afghanistan.

BUT, my question is why can't we do the work. Like people don't need jobs here!

19. I wouldn't worry about the possibility that this is all over the Net....
People, red, blue or otherwise aren't even thinking about racism. This bunch has glorified and pushed the hatred and racism and now it's coming back to bite them in the backend. These people live fore hatred so that idea that the "other side" may be sharing one of their most cherished group activities just isn't a real concern for them. They've been group who have lauded paramilitary racist groups like the so called minutemen and neonazis. I'm just not too worried.:eyes:

I am critical of the UAE/Dubai because I condemn the trafficking and enslavement of children.

If that makes me a racist, then so be it.

27. They used basically the same argument against critics of the Iraq war,.
Remember?

Basically, Bush said that "some people" didn't think brown-skinned people were capable of democracy. Same thing all over again, and it's pretty funny that the Bush administration are the ones who have made Americans afraid of the Big Bad Arab.

Al Qaeda = Iraq.
Osama = Saddam.
Arab = Terrorist.

Yet..
United Arab Emirates = Don't Worry About a Goddamn Thing?

These clowns have dug themselves into such a thick pool of propaganda that no life preserver (constructed of more propaganda, of course) will ever get them back up.
