Rumsfield deputy England "questioning port deal gives aid and comfort"
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/02/23/politics/23cnd-port.html?hp&ex=1140757200&en=436974707c0cdbaf&ei=5094&partner=homepage

As for any suggestions that the impending takeover by the government-owned Dubai company had somehow glided through the Bush administration bureaucracy, Mr. England said the review "definitely was not cursory, and it definitely was not casual."

If the furor over the port deal should go on, Mr. England said, it would give enemies of the United States aid and comfort: "They want us to become distrustful, they want us to become paranoid and isolationist."

Is there anything that we're allowed to bitch about that doesn't give aid and comfort to the enemy these days? Mentioning high gas prices and record oil company profits would be giving aid and comfort now. How long before Halliburton gets a no bid contract for the cattle cars?

1. Definitely the wrong tack to take here...
A lot of the criticism is coming from people who have been supportive up until now. Accusing them of doing the exact same thing they've been criticizing US of doing is probably going to make the nominally aware among them stop and go "hey, wait a minute."

Just another self-destructive maneuver.

2. We aren't already?
They want us to become distrustful

Far too late for that!

8. Yeah, but do they want the FREEPERS
to become distrustful?

If the same anti-government nitwits who were screaming about the New World Order and black helicopters during the Clinton Presidency wake up, things are going to get mighty hot on the Republican side of the aisle.

4. Oh, the old "aid and comfort to the enemy" card.
Fuck you, Mr. England. That line has worn thin.

9. OK, which is it? Are the fasco-muslims the 'enemy' or our 'allies'?
For 5 years all we've heard is 'terra, terra, terra' and 'they will strike us again'. And now it's just trust them?

10. Maybe he is just joking
using satire to make funny.
Please tell me he is trying to be funny because otherwise I 'll just cry.
It is way too sad to think that people could fall for such a transparent attempt to control our minds.

13. By merely asking that, you are practically flying a plane into White House
You might as well burn the remaining fragments of the Constitution and spit in the eye of Whistler's mother.

14. Maybe giving major ports away is giving aid in comfort to the enemy?
Are they all drinking from cheney's flask?

15. good grief

I have a masters degree and I can't even wrap my brain around that arguement. MAybe they know that we know that they want us to be isolationist, so they are actually using it to trick us into being non-isolationist because they know that we know that they know that we know that they know ..... spins on and on, ..........
