WONDERFUL Video Tribute To Barry Cowsill (Katrina Victim)
Hey all, a lot of you will remember that after Katrina my friend's brother was missing in NOLA and sadly, his body was found the end of December only a short distance away from the Convention Center, where his family saw him on CNN waiting to be rescued the Thursday after the storm. He drowned in the streets of NOLA, negligible homicide by the BushCo thugs, IMO...

Anyhow, I went to the memorial service in Newport, RI, last weekend and thought this video tribute was so great. The footage was taken when the Cowsills, who had some success in the 60's and 70's as a family band, reunited to sing the National Anthem for the World Series games, as you can see, they are Red Sox fans!

The concert footage is from a benefit concert they had for older brother Billy, who sadly died the day before his brother's service.

This is an amazing and wonderful family, check it out, and if there's a rock & roll heaven as the song says, they now have even MORE of a hell of a band with Billy and Barry singing in harmony!

2. Thanks For Watching...!
He was such a talented & charasmatic guy -- he had a lot of problems, and it wasn't the best judgement to not vacate pre-Katrina but shit....why weren't they rescued? Everyone was so relieved when he called on the Wed and then showed up on the CNN footage Thurs....and how many more are like him, aren't there like 2,300 people still missing? I'll bet they will be perpetually "missing" just to keep the death toll artificially low.

7. Yea...
I don't think we will ever know the true total. There is no reason he should have died. I know in retrospect it seems like the wrong decision, but he DID survive Katrina.....what he didn't survive was the Brown/Bush neglect...neglect to protect our fellowman, neglect to work quickly and effectively, neglect to be human! How many more will die under this misadministration before we can begin to recover? Hopefully, impeachment is just around the corner. If not, I worry about the future of America and her people. :-(

10. I Honestly Think...
That BushCo just thought those people were expendible...I will never forget going to bed and waking up and seeing on the news THE SAME SITUATION ONLY WORSE AND MORE DESPERATE. Every day worse and more desperate, and it was just like, oh it's coming, it's coming, a gazillion pounds of ice is on its way etc, shit, they couldn't even get WATER to these people, they would have been better off in Cuba or Indonesia, the feds did NOTHING! And I think on purpose, I really do. I hate them with the heat of a thousand suns.

11. I agree.....
I think it was genocide! I remember Kanye West said "George Bush doesn't care about black people", but to be honest, I don't think * cares about MOST people. I have a lot of anger about those days too. It just kept getting worse and worse. At one point I couldn't take it. I turned off the TV and cried and cried. I just couldn't believe my own government had done this to their own people. Now, 6 months later, I am so saddened to know more of the truth. * and his misadministration are evil, EVIL, people! I HOPE THEY BURN IN HELL FOREVER! But, before that, I hope they are brought up on war crimes as well as the crimes they committed after Hurricane Katrina! May the loved ones we lost during those dark days rest in peace forever!

12. Also it seems to me like a news blackout re: NOLA/Katrina Victims
I hardly ever see any real news from there (although the odd "human interest" story does surface from time to time.)

What is the problem with Americans....that a treasure of a city like that, with all that history, can just go down and then it's out of the news cycle in 3 weeks. It's really depressing.

16. I know.....
Some people I talk to think everything down in NO is just fine now. People can be so ignorant!
I tell them that people are still homeless, that FEMA is throwing them out of their hotel rooms, that there are hundreds of trailers available that still go unused. Also, that just because they had Mardi Gras doesn't mean everything is okay. I think if the MSM really told what is still happening down there people would be outraged, at least I hope they would, but I'm afraid that people don't care unless it hits them, their communities, their families. I sure hope society hasn't fallen that far down. If that's true, then it is truly sad.

20. They Are Having A Service For Barry In NOLA On Saturday
With a jazz funeral and everything, since he played at the Kerry pub and other places there for years...his brother who is such a nice guy and lives here in L.A., went to Newport last weekend and is going to NOLA this weekend and then next weekend I suppose has to make arrangements for his other brother who lived in Canada -- best thoughts and prayers to this family please, what a tragic year they have had.

8. He Had So Many Great Songs!
I love his "As Is" CD which I don't think ever had a major release, I bought it from him via the internet, it is really one of the few CDs where I love every single track....why do they play so much shit on the radio?? I'm bewildered how much great music is out there...hardly any of it gets any airplay though.

6. Thank you. I was the one who PMd about Newport and the
Cowsills. I grew up in Newport and it was great to see the shots of Newport...made me homesick. I was good friends w/ Bill we were teens and we used to joke with one another about being cousins bec his father's sister is married to my uncle. So we always called each other "cuz."

My mother called me when Bill died. I just was shocked, but also sad and nostalgic.

They were great and I love this vid.

9. Check out the other three videos with that one
Oh yes I remember, hi! The one with the old Cowsills stuff ("Good Years") has lots of vintage Newport shots from the old Milk Council ads, etc!! I went from L.A. to Newport for the weekend for the memorial, I absolutely love it there but man it was COLD!!! I've only been there in Sept. before this.

Hey could we get some recommendations, maybe we can get Barry on the Greatest page!

She sang a Billy Cowsill tune, "Think On It..." She used to be in the Continental Drifters with sister Susan Cowsill.

18. He Had Been Ill For A Long Time
Edited on Fri Feb-24-06 12:58 AM by K8-EEE
He had a lot of stuff -- the last surgery he had, he never really recovered. He was too ill to make the trip to Newport for Barry's memorial service, and unbelievably, they started Barry's service by announcing that they just found out that Bill had joined him. They got the phone call (Bill lived in Calgary, Canada) just after they spread the ashes. So sad.

Edited on Fri Feb-24-06 01:01 AM by Bluebear
A part of who I am died with these two guys, not to sound dramatic. I'm very sad over this news.

===
It's a time for remembrance

Time to recall the things

I couldn't think of yesterday

Now my eyes bear no resemblance

To the eyes that used to rise

At every word you'd say

But I can't hide the memory of you away

Today or any other day

It's a time for remembrance

And I'll open my eyes

Now the chime in the steeple

Reminding me of summer sights

And nights that wouldn't end

Even unfamiliar people

Walking by, they sigh

And know I've lost my only friend

I used to tell myself

Just dust in your eye

They couldn't be tears

You know, you don't cry

It's a time for remembrance

Time to cry

And, I'll cry

No I can't hide the memory of you away

Today or any other day

It's a time for remembrance

A time to cry

And, I'll cry

And, I'll cry

I'll cry

21. Oh, Very Nice Blue Bear!
Time For Remembrance, you sound like a true Cowsill fan! I didn't really know anything about them before stumbling on Bob Cowsill playing some pubs here in the L.A. area -- then I kind of went backwards from there.

Hey check out the other videos that are linked by the one posted here. Check out the II x II, the lyrics just couldn't be any more of a sad prophecy/prediction:

"We'll go two by two Lord open up the gate....we love our brother Lord what else is there to do...but to head on down the highway going two by two..."

They prepared that clip for the memorial without knowing it would be two Cowsill brothers going through the gate. So sad.

22. This is so sad ~ thank you for the thread. I didn't know the Cowsills
but I did get to know the people who were at the Superdome and like so many around the world, was outraged as day after day went by and no one came, and excuses were made, none of which made sense.

To think he survived, that his friends and family saw him on tv, and then to learn he died ~

Why did he die? Was it the lack of water? It's so hard to think that we all watched this and felt so helpless ~

I can't believe the media is not on this story every day, telling the stories of those who are gone, of those who are left behind, the homeless, the missing. This is a tragedy of huge proportions, yet it's being hidden away ~

I would recommend it, but I keep getting an error message, but I do anyway ~

Maybe some day film makers will tell the stories of NOLA's lost citizens and of the criminal government who let it all happen.

May he rest in peace ~ what an incredible story this is. And it's just one of so many ~

26. I Wish We Knew ALL The Stories....
I really think a lot of people ("compassionate conservatives") think these people were expendible...I saw on Free Republic, they posted an article about honoring the Katrina victims and one of them said something like "oh, let's have a monument to the Lost Looters." Culture of life you know...I'm sure Barry wasn't the only amazing and wonderful person lost there. I would like to see these BushCo cronies who did NOTHING day after day to be in jail for negligible homicide, if they can go after the nursing home owners, what about BushCo, they should have sent the Nat'l Guard out THURSDAY at the LATEST!

27. I hope someone is recording them ~ writing them down so that
they can be put into a book, or film or both when this country is restored to its pre-Bush status ~ when we are allowed to talk about the loss of an entire city, and maybe get the truth about the number of dead ~

Freepers showed their true colors during that storm. They were thrilled with the fake stories of looting etc. It validated their prejudices ~

As for Bush et al, they are guilty of criminally negligent homicide. Oops, I see you just said that, well, I agree and hope one day they will be held accountable for it.

They should have had the National Guard there on Monday!! Around the country states had their NG ready to go, but never got the order ~ again, you have to wonder why ~

May they all rest in peace ~
