The Main Difference Between the USA and the UAE
My adopted home is moving towards Democracy...

And my home country (the US) is moving away from it...

When you factor in that, safety, and economics I know which place I will be staying for now.

A major declaration on political reforms in the UAE is expected to be announced by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan "within months", it has been revealed.

A highly placed source confirmed to Gulf News that work was going on at the topmost levels on the planned reforms. "Women will be able to elect, and be elected to, government positions. There will be a complete change in the political scenario next year. Top officials are already working on this project," the source said... http://www.gulfnews.com/Articles/NationNF.asp?ArticleID=192553

1. How long have you lived there? Are you from the Middle East originally?
What is your opinion of the UAE ports deal?

2. I have lived here for 4 years now... that's a lifetime UAE time
No, I am an red-blooded American from a long line of Americans some going all the way back to Jamestown.

I think it was wrong to have ever privatized port management. However, to ex post facto try to derail the deal smacks of racism and Islamophobia... And, oh demagoguery...

The UAE is one of the few true allies the US has in this region. The people here largely love America and American goods (they are smart enough to hate Bush though). IF this doesn't go through, this might very well nix the free trade deal with the UAE. The country could very well seek to find a more willing partner... say India or China to sell the majority of energy resources to...

The US needs them much more than they need us.

3. I think it has nothing to do with racism and everything to do w/ security
especially post 9-11. The regular peopel there are probably fine folks. I just don't want another country to run six of our our ports.
The company is not a publically owned company plus is is government owned. They're not accountable like a public company.
