The port deal that gave control of six major American ports to a British firm in 1999 was a business transaction, pre-9/11. No one asserted that we were at war.
You contend, Mr. President, that since 9/11, we are in a state of war. You even cite your executive position in the "War Powers Act" passed by Congress as the reasons that you have "extra constitutional powers", such as surveillance without warrants.
Well, for the sake of argument, let's say that you are correct, that you do have extra powers because we are in a state of war. If that is so, Mr. President, do you think this nation, or any nation, should hand over any port or border function to a foreign nation. Especially a nation that has ties to our enemies. Wouldn't one think, Mr. President, that the U.S. Government should have complete control of our boarders and ports in a time of war?
You can't have it both ways, Mr. President. Either we are at war all the time, or not at all. It's either over or it's not. It can't be that we are at war only when it suits your interest, and than casually ignored when it's convenient for some shady business deal for your friends.
Again, I ask you, Mr. President, are we at war or not?
