Clark 12/11/05: "We have a four month window in Iraq"
In light of the rising violence of the past few days, I thought this worth reposting.

GENERAL WESLEY CLARK: Well I think it’s really requires the administration to be very very nimble and quick in linking our military capabilities to the political outcomes we want right now. We’ve got a window of about FOUR MONTHS after this election to try to get that constitution re-jiggered so that it cuts off the Iranian’s access and the Shi’as control over the oil in the south and denies Iran the opportunity to create a Shi’a-dominated buffer state in the south of Iraq. About a FOUR MONTH window. AFTER THAT WE'RE GOING TO LEAVE because we’ve done our work there and the Shi’as will want us to leave because we’ve handed over to them what they’re most interested in. It won’t be a victory that we’re proud of ultimately unless we take advantage right now of our military capabilities.

Eric Shawn: Alright, General Wesley Clark, we thank you. You’ve just laid out the strategy and the challenge after this Thursday for the next FOUR MONTHS. Thank you, sir. Live in Little Rock.

GENERAL WESLEY CLARK: Thank you.

1. I almost never disagree with Gen. Clark
but now I do. I think the window is closed--it closed yesterday, a month and a half earlier than he anticipated. So now it's get the fuck out time.

I think we'd also do well to remember that he said that, during this four month window, we had the opportunity to get a grade of C- for the Iraq fiasco instead of an F, which we would get if we didn't straighten shit out. I give it an F and I say get the fuck out.

It goes without saying that I say this with all respect to Gen. Clark.

2. And Clark was basically right.
Four months versus 2 1/2 - it's like predicting the weather. Right result, slightly off timetable.

3. Exactly. The four months was a pretty darn good estimate, imo.

4. I remember that interview
It will takes BushCo another month and a half to come up with a spin to get us out of there. It will be about 4 months to the day from what Clark said.

Too bad it had to come to this. God help those people.

5. Yep, remember it well......and
When he said it, his saddness was written all over his face. Very serious and very concerned. He knew, he knew, but was hoping to be wrong...he loves his troops...I could just cry.

7. he was optimistic
just like the scientists who believed that the ice shelf in Greenland would last another hundred years. The ice shelf melted and Iraq has degenerated into civil war.
