61. Watch "Enron, The smartest guys in the room" with him.
Bush said he didn't want to interfere when California was having the rolling blackouts. Enron was deliberately taking power plants offline just for laughs and to boost their profits.
Bush said he didn't know Ken Lay. But Kenny boy was one of his biggest contributers.

I used it today on a right-winger co-worker and it worked wonders. Then filled him in on the financial ties between Treasury Secretary Snow, Maritime Administrator David Sanborn (not the saxophonist I think), and the UAE. Also the ties between the Emirs and Osama (e.g. going hunting together, funding 9/11, little stuff like that). Surprisingly, Faux News hadn't mentioned some of these trivial matters. :sarcasm:

Edit: Say, Osama likes to go hunting. Maybe he'd accept an invitation for a widdwe qwaiw shooting with Cheney?

to come back to the logical world... I think it is happening too. I visited a local conservative chat earlier and the posters were arguing with each other and some were actually making sense.

They were talking about the growing disparity between rich and poor and the harm that outsourcing is doing to the middle class. My jaw dropped and I asked my b/f to quickly look out the window and see if pigs were flying.

60. Just continue to interact with your father in a peaceful and positive way.
This is like a family estrangement that is because of ____________, that is now coming to a positive conclusion.

(You name the subject -- politics, sex, race, religion, money, wills, choice of partners, marriages, adultery... anything you can think of.)

I'm proud of you for pursuing this with your father. I wish you both the best of luck in getting back on a positive political wavelength.

For the person who admits he was wrong, it's a big step. I know. I've been there a couple of time on a couple of issues, in my life.

If he expresses recriminations, your best comeback could be, "Dad, forget about it. I love you and let's just move on from here."

In peace,

30. I hammered it at least a little bit nearly every day
anytime i learned a damning tidbit about the bush crime family, i'd make sure to tell him. usually that led to some nasty shouting matches, but i kept at it, it always helped to show him the hard articles and sound clips. I made it a point also to hammer both the bushes and the evils of the christian right, especially how anti-catholic they are. Just keep at it, do not, DO NOT stop. I showed him F9/11 and that started the turn, then i showed him one of Kerry's speeches uncovering more of bushes lies about the war, he turned some more. then i showed how the christian right was closing churches on christmas day. then i screamed at him for even slightly approving of the torture and wiretapping. all the while showing what Jesus would do is NOT what the repubs would do. then the port issue came up, that turned him completely. I think he felt betrayed. so now he thinks bush should and will be impeached, AND that we should get out of iraq.

just keep at it, we can do it, don't ever give up.

Just NOW about the ports? What's his reasoning for being against them? Is it because of security or rascism? By dribs and drabs, the Bush faithful have been falling off. The first test of this is the mid-terms this fall.

seriously!

There is extreme dissent over at Free Republic over this.

The only supporters Bush will have left will be the wealthiest 10%, and the 5% who THINK they're wealthy. Bush could turn the Dept. of Homeland Security over to Al-Qaeda & these people still would support Bush just as long as they are raking in the bucks.

37. I think it will hit a hard 30% and sit there
39% is awful. That is a terrible, terrible number. 6 out of 10 Americans think this idiot is doing a terrible job. The American people came to this conclusion on their own because we know the media is not saying bad things about him. (Imagine what his numbers would be if the media actually told the truth instead of merely refereeing fixed talking-heads fights.)

I think the lowest it can go is 29-32%. This seems to be the abolsute bottom number for the hard core Rethug true believers. I don't think it really matters at this point. This guy is toast. We need to move beyond him and start acting as though the Dems truly are the only hope for the country to fix what Numbnuts broke. We have to start to campaign on the future, when * is gone and what we, as Dems, are going to do to right this country again.

46. Accusation and punishment -- the right revels in it.
I'm always surprised when people express surprise that the right-wingers they know are getting on the Impeachment bus. Accusation and punishment is what many of those folks are all about. They think Democrats are weak because, instead of going after wrong-doers, we say we'll "make sure it doesn't happen again" or "investigate" (and the Republicans chuckle, “Gee, for a minute there, I though they were actually going to do something.”)

On the right, they have no compunctions about going straight for the jugular. It's something we would do well to learn from them. When faced with crimes, if you do not accuse and demand punishment, you risk complicity.

Anti-fascists need get it through their thick heads that demanding Impeachment is not just the RIGHT thing to do, it is the WINNING thing to do.

If Democratic candidates take a stand and demand Impeachment, it would not be surprising to see them garner an additional 5-7% of the white male vote, simply for showing the fortitude that demographic respects

. . .who are demanding impeachment.

Carl Sheeler, running for U.S. Senate in Rhode Island is calling for impeachment, loud and clear. Here's something I posted over the weekend. The points don't just apply to his campaign. They apply to any of the 25 co-sponsors of John Conyer's resolution calling for an Impeachment inquiry.

Air America Radio is a great way to get the word out to the "troops"!

The call in number is the same for all the shows: 1-866-303-2270

Check out the schedule at http://airamericaradio.com for shows. My top choices are:

Weekends -- Laura Flanders (7 PM to 10 PM EST)

Weekdays -- Randi Rhodes (3 PM to 7 PM EST), Mike Malloy (10 PM to 1 AM EST)

Any of us can call in and talk about how the Sheeler for U.S. Senate Campaign in Rhode Island. is fighting for Impeachment -- and how we can use his campaign to send a message to candidates across the nation:

  • Money Talks
If Carl raises a SIGNIFICANT amount of money is a SHORT time, we can point to his campaign as proof that fighting for Impeachment is not just the RIGHT thing to do, it is the WINNING thing to do!

As we call on our own elected officials and candidates to fight for impeachment, the most powerful thing we can bring to the table is a concrete example of a campaign that is mobilizing people and raising real money. We can make the Sheeler for U.S. Senate Campaign that example!

We don't have many leaders who are making powerful demands for Impeachment. If we want more of them, we must contribute what we can, spread the word, and ask others to do the same. Go to www.carlsheeler.com NOW.

Doing whatever we can to make the Sheeler campaign a watershed -- spreading the word, contributing whatever we can, and urging others to do the same - may be the most effective thing anyone can do right now.

  • His "Impeach Bush" Billboard is fantastic!
People can check it out on the carlsheeler.com (and while there, why not make a contribution?)

If we want to see MANY more billboards like this, we need to get on the stick. Call on MoveOn.org or Working Assets start an "Impeach Bush billboards" furd raising drive.

  • ANY state legislature can initiate impeachment
I'll say that again. As described in section 603 of the U.S. House Rules, any state legislature can initiate impeachment by describing the charges in a resolution and conveying that resolution to the U.S. House of Representatives. Carl Sheeler is calling on the Rhode Island Assembly to do just that. We can do the same thing in our states. Go to afterdowningstreet.org and check out the "In Your State" section.

74. You're my hero
Really. Working on a campaign is like walking blind folded on ice. You never know whether you're going in the right direction and even if you are, how far you've gone. Needless to say, slipping and hitting your ass is always a given.

Metaphors aside, there is 1,000 to 1 ratio between oral support and physical action, which at times can be demoralizing. Raah raah takes little effort, but closing the complacency gap has devolved into who raises the most money to penetrate the consciousness for 30 seconds versus real discussions on issues we all care about when we're impacted by them.

This is how our Democracy was taking away from us (erosion) and is the only way we'll take it back. Even small efforts by the many are equal to the large efforts by the few.

Thank you for helping.

"We are doing far more to change the dynamics for the better when we encourage many to do something small and provide feedback then when we recruit a few to do something big and neglect to provide feedback on results."

For some reason (I think it's that beautiful photo)I remember a post of yours last year where you were saddened by this distance between the two of you - I am so glad to hear this!!! I was raised by right wing evangelicals, and understand that deep philosophical divide within a family. While I know it doesn't exactly bring the two of you together to stand at the middle of the bridge, at least you're facing each other now. :D :7 :D :7 :D :7 :D :7 :D :7 :D :7 :D :7 :D :7 :D :7 :D :7 :D :7

Now, don't push him too hard to change all of his beliefs to "reality-based opinions" at once.

Just get him to tell two friends about his personal epiphany. Then they'll tell two friends, and they'll tell two friends, and so on, and so on...

You've seen the light! How much better this country can be when others like you join us in a BIG way in November 2006!

Carry on, my friend! I hope you will be active and articulate for the Democrats in the coming election! Don't they say that about smokers, too? There's nothing like the zeal of a former smoker -- or a former Republican!!!

""KBR, the engineering and construction subsidiary of Halliburton Co.
said Tuesday it has been awarded a contingency contract from the Department of Homeland Security to supports its Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities in the event of an emergency. The maximum total value of the contract is $385 million and consists of a 1-year base period with four 1-year options. KBR held the previous ICE contract from 2000 through 2005. The contract, which is effective immediately, provides for establishing temporary detention and processing capabilities to expand existing ICE Detention and Removal Operations Program facilities in the event of an emergency influx of immigrants into the U.S., or to support the rapid development of new programs, KBR said. The contract may also provide migrant detention support to other government organizations in the event of an immigration emergency, as well as the development of a plan to react to a national emergency, such as a natural disaster, the company said""

In the old days the planning had FEMA as Ollie North's 'suspension of Constitution' vehicle. Now with the recent government realignments, ICE--Immigration and Customs Enforcement--is the new intelligence and detention authority.

Detaining 'dissenters' during wartime was always a Republican priority, since they knew they were going to be starting wars for resources (oil), as the Nixon plans to seize Saudi oil fields in '73 shows us. They merely dusted off the Saudi plans and substituted Iraq and voila, the current mess we're in. Executive Orders allow for the imposition of martial law, which is omitted from this article which only mentions 'natural disasters' as the pretext for imposing martial law. Arresting your political enemies requires a pretext, just as war does.

If Bush after 9-11 had only said We're Getting Out of the MiddleEastern Oil Dependency NOW, just think what would have happened. But it was never going to happen with him in power. Now they are just getting down to admitting the failure of their last six yrs.

immigration.

When Republicans want to impeach their own President, it seems to come straight from xenophobia/racism.
