If "They" are so dumb, what does that make us?
I have read a few posts, and a lot replies from people here on DU, that are buying into the fact that Bush didn't know about the Dubai deal, among other things. Seems a lot like the Reagan defense, only now we know that Reagan had somewhat of an excuse.

I don't buy this for a second. The republicans are so dumb that they have managed to co-opt all three branches of our government, infiltrate the highest levels of corporate America, take over and shape the news we watch, trash our constitution and what have Americans done?

The answer is not a hell of a lot.

It has taken over twenty years for the Thugs to put all of their people in all of the right places to achieve a bloodless coup of our government. And we didn't even put up much of a fight. We allowed them to define us as a party, as presidential candidates, our issues and everything else. We have allowed this to happen.

We whine, piss and moan, but while we are whining and pissing and moaning, the other side is having their cake and eating it too. It is a bitter dessert that they will eventually choke on and die from great national indigestion.

But the bottom line is that they have accomplished what they have set out to do.

And for Bush being stupid? I hardly think so. He may not be Phi Beta Kappa material, but he was smart enough to surround himself with some pretty politically astute operatives.

I am not envious. His kind reek, like apples that are rotten to the core, but again, I'll make my point: If they are so dumb, what does that make us?

If you accuse them of anything, let it be of the arrogance that they have from always getting their way.

Last thought. If there is a heaven and hell, I sincerely believe that the devil holds a special place for Bush, right beside Hitler and Stalin.

3. * isn't exactly stupid, more like ignorant,
arrogant, superior and smug.

He wasn't smart enough to surround himself with anyone. It was done for him as everything else has been done his entire life. It's one of the reasons he feels so entitled.

Baker III tapped him to run in 2000, surely in concurrence with the rest of the profiteering oil war sluts from PNAC.

Please don't give him credit he just doesn't deserve. He IS the epitome of the big dumb jock stereotype.

I don't just sit whining, pissing and moaning. I live as I speak.

I write to my POS Senators and idiot waste Congressman. I write e-mails and regular letters to them that most likely will forever be ignored since I am in PA and the 3rd District, English.

I write LTTE.

I live in a small rural city (pop. 7500) and keep a 2ft. x 4ft. fluorescent green sign that reads - BUSH LIES - in my front yard off one of the main traffic highways through the area. I get up each morning and expect to find it through my windshield.

I'm adding another sign that will read - WAR CRIMES IN OUR NAMES- Torture is US. Let the parents explain that one to the kids when they get home off the bus.

I usually have the number of soldiers killed in Iraq written across my back car window with glass chalk. I haven't done well keeping it up in the winter I'll admit, but when Spring comes again my daughter will be begging me to wipe it off again. And I have numerous bumper stickers about fascism, treaties and DU of course.

I will march and rally as I can afford to attend. And have.

None of this is easy for a single middle-aged woman with a cane in the middle of a redneck NASCAR area, but I continue because it matters.

If what I am doing gives one person the courage to speak their mind when they have previously remained silent, it will be worth it. If it causes one person to have an idea that changes the way they have viewed this country so they can now see how it is being destroyed, then all the names I have been called, the flat tires, the strange phone calls, the looks and the shunning by most of my family, it will have been worth it.

Every last bit of it.

In peace,:hi:

4. I applaud your efforts, but at the same time...
how in the hell can we look at the opposition and say they are dumb?

Arrogant, yes, to a fault. But dumb? Not hardly, and that includes Bush. We always seem to make the mistake of underestimating them. This has to stop.

5. Agreed, Joe. Anyone who's read "The Art of War" knows that it's fatal..
...to underestimate the enemy. And in this case it's becoming more and more obvious that Bush**'s "stupid act" is a smokescreen for the RW's power-mad corporatist agenda.

6. Don't you mean misunderestimating? lol And you are
equating smart with wealth and power, not always true. Money has never made people seem more intelligent in my experience and I believe * is walking, talking proof.

I guess I never have thought as everyone else does. Agree to disagree.:)

In hope of peace,:hi:

8. I agree, they are arrogant, smug, insensitive, greedy stinkers,
but they are not dumb.

As for *, he's just a figurehead anyway. I sometimes refer to "the junta," to mean the gang now in power.
