Protesters greet Bush in northern Indiana (AP/Chicago Sun-Times)
MISHAWAKA, Ind.-- (excerpt) -- Outside, more than 400 people protested his visit. They lined up on the eastern edge of campus at a major intersection, with signs that read, "Impeach Bush," "Make steel, not war," and "Heckuva a job."

Jan Stewart, a sculptor from Chesterton, said she thought it was important to be outside.

"We hope to let people know that peace is what we want in this country," she said. "We want our soldiers back home. We want all that money being spent over there being spent over here on Katrina victims.

"We don't expect him to get the point because we've been doing this a long time and he still hasn't. The more of us that come out, the bigger the impact."

People driving past honked their horns, yelling encouragement to the protesters.

1. "It cost $500 a person to attend the event at the evangelical Christian
college and $4,000 a person to have a picture taken with the president."

He talks in front of military personnel who fear retribution if they so much as sigh and he speaks in front of religious groups who hope he will make the world safe for Christianity. Does this POS POTUS EVER speak in front of a random audience of the nation he is supposed to lead?

Clinton was almost thrown out of office and he was adored by the 'people.' This guy does not dare show his face in most of America and I don't hear a peep about impeachment.

If I am to be punished in a future life I will come back to earth as an instructor of political science trying to explain this s**t.

2. Live here in Mishiwaka...
My brother attends the college where he spoke and to be fair he was there for a fundraiser for Chris Chocola our (R) rep. So to say he wasn't in front of a "random audience" is a bit unfair. Unfortunately all there was tonight on the news is Bush being in town and how it's his 7th visit here as Pres. The thing they forget is he's here for fundraising to keep the Repug in office not b/c he cares about us. And time after time we are stuck with the cost of protecting him with extra police.

3. Thanks for the info. I would not have known that. So, they did not
screen the audience for unapproved bumper sticker types etc? If not, I am impressed and surprised. Best of luck to your brother.

5. Good news...
for $500 a plate and $4000 you too could attend this fundraiser in which the Chocola campaign added $600,000 to his coffers which already were over $1,000,000. At the same time the city of Mishiwaka was raped for the cost of extra police needed, businesses along the presidential route got no business since the roads were blocked off for an hour over lunch time, and the South Bend marriot hotel rented out an entire floor for Bush to "rest" in since he was here for an unbelievably difficult 4 hrs. All of this was not paid for by the Chocola campaign which leaves me to assume that the taxpayers of Indiana will pick up the bill.
