Shocking info about the attack on the the Al-Askariyah Shrine
The attack's timing, 6:55 a.m., also represents an ongoing mystery. Sunrise in Baghdad is at 6:40. Morning prayers, which last about 15 minutes, occur before sunrise and would have been over several minutes before sunrise.

The attackers waited to stage the attack until everyone had left, apparently aiming to avoid casualties while still aiming for a symbolic attack on the tombs of the two of the 12 figures holiest to the Shia after the Prophet Mohammed.

That the attackers, who were dressed as Iraqi police officers, tied up the guards instead of just killing them as jihadists or insurgents normally would, only added to the mystery.

6. I don't think so.
We're shooting at children at checkpoints, I don't know why we'd show any less mercy if we were staging a Pearl Harbor event.

The only people who would not want harm to befall those people in the mosque, would have been their own compatriots. They destroyed the churches but let the people live. It's someone who probably thinks this will make the Sunnis come to the bargaining table. Someone who miscalculated.

3. According to an article in Haaretz, the Prez of Iran is saying the US
and Israel did it?
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/686650.html

Excerpt:
Ahmadinejad warns Israel over blast in Shi'ite mosque in Iraq
By Reuters

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad warned Western powers like the United States and Israel that they would face the wrath of Muslims following the devastating bombing of a Shi'ite Muslim shrine in Iraq.

Echoing Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Ahmadinejad pinned the blame for Wednesday's Samarra shrine bombing on "Zionists" and foreign forces in Iraq.

"These heinous acts are committed by a group of Zionists and occupiers that have failed. They have failed in the face of Islam's logic and justice," Ahmadinejad said in a speech broadcast live on state television.
End

There are many possible perpetrators including factions in the US who want to keep Iraq in controlled chaos.

9. To be sure and he has a vested interest himself in promoting
Chaos in Iraq.
Haaretz is an excellent resource and surely doesn't agree with his statements but events in the ME are very convoluted. I like reading them because they are far more independent of their government than our papers are.
As for who did the bombing, I can see it benefiting at least 5 different parties. And the one thing it seems to say is we are very far away from "Last Throes".
