A Marine Friend of mine was killed...
Edited on Thu Feb-23-06 10:49 PM by genie_weenie
I don't have words, he was a good man, and I feel ashamed.

Staff Sgt. Jay T. Collado, 31, of Columbia, S.C., died Feb. 20 from an improvised explosive device near Baghdad, Iraq.

http://www.defenselink.mil/releases/2006/nr20060222-12549.html

Edit: Thanks to all, just send any thoughts to his family, he had a nice wife and a beautiful little daughter. He was kind and put up with me during our tour together...

15. I'm so sorry.
I feel pain in my heart every time I hear of a death in the military, especially one of these wasted deaths in this needless war, but it especially hits close to home when it is a Marine who has died, since my son is a Marine. I wear a black dogtag from www.herobracelets.org to honor a friend of my son's who was killed in September of 2004.

Staff Sgt. Jay T. Collado :patriot:

If I could say something I would say it.
If I could do something I would do it.
If I just knew what to do.

Your hurt is proof of your friend's quality of being. The better the person and the
more you loved that person the deeper the hurt. Do not be ashamed of your tears
or hurt because they show the world your goodness too. Please honor me by giving
my love and sympathy to your friend's family.

23. Dear Lord, how many more?
Good thoughts to you and his family.

You obviously cared about this friend. Ties formed on tour are pretty strong.

If your shame is because this administration didn't value his life as much as you do, then I too feel for you and with you.

If your shame is survivor's guilt, try to find a way to talk about it or at least write it down so it doesn't imprison you inside your strength.

34. Bummer.

A Poem That I Wrote In A High Fever

You who are lengthening your lives
with the best doctors and the best medicines
remember those who are shortening their lives
with the wars
that you in your long lives are not
preventing.

You who are again screwing
the younger generations
and winking at each other
the winking of your eyelids
is like the chill of the swinging shutters
in an empty house.

48. "Greater love hath no man..."
"...than to put his mortal body between what he loves and the devastation of war."

Nothing changes that, even if the war is a fricking Imperialist adventure by a greedy, power-mad cabal with a rabid chimp fronting for it.

Your buddy gave his life for what he loved and valued, that sacrifice will always have deep significance.

And the evil, callous men and women who incited the war that took his life are bound on the Wheel of Karma, as are we all. Karma will look after them, rest assured, whether we see it or not. It will.

sadly,
Bright

72. What really upsets me
Is that *we* have allowed the Human Face to be taken off of the war. *We* have allowed BushCo to frame the debate, and Hannity, O'Reily et al to speak in abstracts about the families who have been devastated, some likely never to fully recover, for them to focus and destroy Cindy Sheehan, too drape themselves in the cloak of the blood of the fallen and I don't know what to do.

Thanks to all.

82. So so sorry
I pray peace for the family. It tears my heart out when I hear about the people dying in vain.

And I pray Bush chokes on dinner...sorry.

83. Deepest sympathy
for your loss.

And ours.

There are no words, really, but know that we grieve with you and I think most of us feel such a loss as this quite keenly -- not as keenly as you, surely, but keenly nonetheless.
