Native American trusts and the DOI website shut down.
Rememeber this back in 2001? I do, because I remember trying to access the NPS website with no dice, because all of DOIs sites were down. It was done in connection with a lawsuit filed on behalf of Native American tribes to protect the trust funds from "hackers" They didn't just shut down the Bureau of Indian Affairs site, they shut the entire DOI site and all subagencies down.

The shutdown is an unfortunate byproduct of a 5-year-old federal lawsuit by Indian tribes over $10 billion in Native American trust fund money they say was mishandled by the U.S. Department of the Interior over the past century.

When a court-assigned hacker was able to penetrate the department's home page in November, U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth ordered the entire department's Internet system clamped off to maintain the security of the trust fund.

Could there be a connection with the Abramoff case?
