15. If you have a dog, wake it up and tell it to earn it's biscuits!
Double check your locks! Keep the phone nearby in case you have to call for help...Good luck!

18. thanks for the dog alert!
i was just posting a reply to another poster, saying that we have no guns in the house, thank God, but we do have two beautiful, kindly dogs, who are ready to launch themselves on anyone intending to hurt us!

(oops--helicopter seems to have moved a little bit further away...it doesn't sound so close right now)!

16. do you mean not a black hawk helicopter?
doors and windows safely locked, though.

do you mean, "so long as it's not" ... a black hawk helicopter in the midst of some homeland security operation along the florida coast?

in situations like this, it has usually been the sheriff's helicopter up there -- but in the middle of the night, locked inside the house, without being able to look out the window or step into the yard to see just what kind of helicopter is up there ... one can conjecture any sort of theory ...
from, are some cubans or haitians trying to land in the not too distant seashore? is homeland security conducting some homeland security exercise? are we at war with the latest horde of sharks?
what are jebbie boy and junior up to now? is homeland security preparing for a showdown with port authorities up and down the coast?

God, it is so ennerving!

19. Nah, the CIA black helecopters...
Edited on Fri Feb-24-06 03:54 AM by Dead_Parrot
...y'know, the silent ones they hunt the aliens in.

(sorry, been watching X-files again :D)

They're probably "just" hunting a guy who's held up a gas station. You could phone the local sheriff's office and ask - no guarantee you'll get a useful answer, but it'll give you something to do.

24. That's OK, then...
I used to get that a lot in the UK (Luton's a wonderful town at 2AM). I always got torn between trying to hide and trying to watch.

Of course, it might be it is a black ops helecopter and it's gone into stealth mode to catch the mutants in your back yard...

7. They might be looking for a fugitive in your neighborhood.
Make sure you lock your doors, and if you have a gun, have it ready. Just in case. This is not something to be taken lightly.

I do have two beautifully kind dogs who would be ready to bite anyone intending to hurt us.

... the word "fugitive" is interesting. "Fugitive" as in "fugitive from justice", "fugitive, as in fugitive from the border patrol and homeland security?" I have seen border patrol and homeland security in action on my television screen a few months back when they were trying to intercept (and finally did intercept) a boatload of cuban rafters who were nearing the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale coast.

they (the homeland security/border patrol people--as opposed to the coast guard) looked like a bunch of goons!

10. What you should do is, take your shirt off, then run out your front door,
...then jump in you car and drive away as FAST as you can!

But just go to the 24 store for a few minutes, then just drive home.

Then, tell us what happens.

Just consider yourself lucky, I live South West of an Air Force Reserve base, and I get low flying Cobra Attack Helicopters flying over my house all the time. It freaks out the cats.

25. wow! (are you able to get any sleep at night?)
i sympathize with the cats! and with my anti bush sentiments, my anti-war stance, and my repudiation of wars, take-overs, power-grabs, and of the bushes glorification of war and their thuggery and jackbootedness, i would probably have to move out of the neighborhood or have a heart attack ... or become an activist for peace.

33. Luckily it only happens in the daytime, and usually only once or twice...
...per month, but those suckers are LOUD! And you can hear them coming from a long way off. :hide:

I used to live closer to the base, which made weekends fun when the ANG pilots were practicing "touch and Go's" in their F-18's. :sarcasm:

35. the time i was in a publix parking lot right after wilma and bush flew over
escorted by four black hawk helicopters, before i knew it, i was on my feet, out of the car, standing in the middle of the parking lot yelling obscenities at him. my neighbors who saw his copter fly over our homes didn't get tired of giving him the finger until the copters were way out of their sight!

i saw a lot of war movies as a child, and not knowing any better, always loved to see them and our brave boys. as i grew older and knew better, my thinking on wars and the military has changed a whole lot, and bush has served to explode my thinking about wars. i positively hate wars, hate bush, and our brave boys would be braver still if they would stand up to bush and say, NO, YOU ARE NOT GOING TO USE ME ANYMORE FOR YOUR GREEDY OIL PURPOSES.

anyhow, glad you are able to sleep at night.

32. Do you live anywhere near Greenacres, FL
If so, this may explain the helicopter.

Missing Autistic Boy's Body Found in Fla.
Feb 24 12:51 PM US/Eastern

GREENACRES, Fla.

The body of an 8-year-old autistic boy was found in a retaining pond across the street from his home Friday, one day after police launched a massive search for him.

Jared McGuire's mother told authorities she had last seen him sleeping on the couch Thursday afternoon. After she reported him missing, police scoured the area dogs and a helicopter. Authorities suspect the body sank and then resurfaced.

A deputy spotted Jared in the pond Friday. An autopsy was planned Friday to determine the cause of death.

There were no obvious signs of trauma and the boy was fully clothed, Greenacres Police Lt. Michael Porath said. Authorities said the boy had severe autism.

Police has issued an alert after a witness reported seeing a child matching Jared's description being forced into a van.

"We are still looking into the abduction angle," Porath said. But he said because the boy was found so close to home, it appears less likely that he was abducted.

Greenacres is 8 miles south of West Palm Beach.

34. the next county down. I too thought whether that copter last night was
connected with that search when i read the newspapers this morning...but it is just too much of a distance (more than 30 or 40 miles) for the one to have been connected to the other.
