Teamsters Plan Rallies To Protest Port Contracts

BALTIMORE -- From Miami to Boston, Oakland to Philadelphia, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters is scheduled to rally in 20 cities Friday.

The planned rallies are against an agreement by the George W. Bush administration to allow a state-owned Dubai-based company to take over some operations at six U.S. seaports.

A statement released by the Teamsters said the union strongly opposes the sale of P and O Ports U.S. terminal operations to Dubai Ports World.

The statement called it a questionable $7 billion giveaway and it charges the Bush administration's backing of the plan "puts our nation's gateways under the control of a company based in a country that has served as a conduit for terrorist activity."

If you're a teamster or going to the rally, you have my support!!
