Spoof bill would ban adoptions by Republicans
Friday, February 24, 2006
Sandy Theis
Plain Dealer Bureau Chief

Columbus - Citing "credible research" showing that children raised by Republican parents are more likely to be intolerant, State Sen. Bob Hagan sent out a spoof that seeks co-sponsors for a bill to ban registered Republicans from adopting children or serving as foster parents.

It follows a GOP-drafted bill - that's not a spoof - to ban gays and lesbians from adopting or becoming foster parents.

In a memo to his Senate colleagues, the Youngstown Democrat notes that Republican-raised children tend to be "significantly wealthier than their Democrat-raised counterparts," but "at risk for developing emotional problems, social stigmas, inflated egos, an alarming lack of tolerance for others they deem different than themselves and an air of overconfidence to mask their insecurities."

She passed this around to her co-workers, and they're in almost total agreement!

5. There was a fantastic interview with a woman from Social Services
on Channel 10 (WBNS10) when the awful bill trying to ban Gays from adopting surfaced about two weeks ago. The wonderful lady they spoke with was gay and an adoptive and foster parent and worked for social services.

The bill died. I believe that interview actually was part of the reason.

9. I agree. I don't think we use that tactic enough.
It's so easy to show just how ridiculous their stances are and I think it's very effective at getting others, who might be going along with it, to wake up.

12. Exactly
Ridicule is a very powerful rhetorical device- and the far right has been using it effectively for years. Too bad most of our guys seem never to have taken a speech communications class....

6. I grew up in a
republican foster home mind you it was in the early 80's they where wonderful people very tolerant although i do recall a few snide LIberal remarks lmao at the time i didn't know what a liberal was and really didn't have much interest.

They where just wonderful people I learned a lot about taking care of kids and being a family from them.

I know the memo is a spoof but and in light of the no gay adoption types..it is funny...i just wanted to add my 2 cents.

7. Not to mention they're stoopid
House Speaker Jon Husted, a Dayton-area Republican and an adoptee, opposes the gay adoption bill but disputes Hagan's thesis.

"I was raised by Democrats," Husted said.

"I got to go to the secret meetings when I was growing up. That's how I knew they were going to tax me and take away my Second Amendment rights. That's why I became a Republican."

His biological brother, he said, was raised by wolves - and became a Democrat.

The guy publicly insults his adoptive parents, biological parents and his biological brother, in order to refute the theory that Republicans are intolerant of other viewpoints. :dunce: :eyes:

13. Berkeley did a study which essentially showed conservatism to be a mental
condition. ;)

"In August 2003, the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Science Foundation announced the results of their $1.2 million study. It stated, essentially, that (Republicans) are mentally disturbed. Scholars from the Universities of Maryland, California at Berkeley, and Stanford had determined that social conservatives, in particular, suffer from ‘mental rigidity,’ ‘dogmatism,’ and ‘uncertainty avoidance,’ together with associated indicators for mental illness." Studies show that they divorce at much higher rate than atheists and other religious groups.

More truth in this than they realize:

"In a memo to his Senate colleagues, the Youngstown Democrat notes that Republican-raised children tend to be "significantly wealthier than their Democrat-raised counterparts," but "at risk for developing emotional problems, social stigmas, inflated egos, an alarming lack of tolerance for others they deem different than themselves and an air of overconfidence to mask their insecurities."
