U.A.E. firm offers to delay port dealFurther talks with White House, Congress plannedWASHINGTON — A United Arab Emirates-owned company offered Thursday to delay part of its $6.8 billion takeover of most operations at six U.S. ports.
The delay would give the Bush administration more time to convince skeptical lawmakers that the deal poses no security risks.
Earlier Thursday, Karl Rove, deputy White House chief of staff, had said that President Bush would accept a delay in the deal. The Republican-controlled Congress

2. The Deal Will STILL Go Through, Repubs WILL Come On Board
And the Dems should seize the moment and constantly clobber them over the head with it from now until forever.

Look, now is the time to turn the tables. The Repubs are more than willing to sell the the USA's ports to terrorist supporting countries. They DO NOT CARE ABOUT OUR SECURITY.

Pure gold.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice left the United Arab Emirates Friday, following a meeting with ministers of six Gulf nations. An official statement by the UAE said that "In addition to the regional issues mentioned in the joint statement of the GCC ministers, the discussions included the on-going Free Trade Agreement negotiations where the two countries reiterated their desire to achieve a comprehensive agreement. The FTA would further enhance the current U.S.-UAE trade relationship, boost direct foreign investment and create job opportunities for citizens of both countries. The UAE is the third largest trading partner of the United States in the Middle East."

4. "Ports company will delay takeover"

"We need to understand the concerns of the people in the U.S. who are worried about this transaction and make sure they are addressed to the benefit of all parties," said Ted Bilkey, the company's chief operating officer, in a statement released Thursday night.

According to the statement, DP World will delay taking over management of the U.S. ports "while it engages in further consultations with the Bush administration and, as appropriate, congressional leadership and relevant port authorities to address concerns over future security arrangements."

The announcement came on the heels of comments from the second in command at the Pentagon, who said Thursday that people who publicly oppose allowing a Middle Eastern company to take over management of some U.S. ports could be threatening national security.

Rove also said the sale is far from complete. "There are some hurdles, regulatory hurdles, that this still needs to go through on the British side as well that are going to be concluded next week. There's no requirement that it close, you know, immediately after that," he said.

being involved - I don't think that will happen.

I am hoping that this deal will whimper to a halt.

7. Now we'll see commercials promoting our good friends, the UAE
and how they're working with us. :puke: Saudia Arabia ran some a while back...warm and fuzzies all the way!

UAE pulled Bush's ass out of the sling so the public's short memory can lapse. The deal will not only go through...it will SAIL through! :grr:
