What is your definition of a "civil war?"
The administration is pretty reluctant to use that term, even making the New York Times pull it from their headlines (http://rawstory.com/news/2005/New_York_Times_backtracks_after_declaring_0224.html). I always assumed that the definition would be two or more factions in the same country fighting for control of that country. That sure sounds like that's what's happening in Iraq right now (and has been for quite some time).

"Sorry, old chap, but I'm going to have to shoot you now."

"By all means, friend, take a shot. If you miss, of course, you realize I'm going to have to shoot you back."

"Well, of course. I wouldn't have it any other way."

"Nice weather we're having, isn't it?"

"Excellent."

BANG!

"Nice shooting, but I'm afraid you missed."

"New rifle. Have to get it sighted in."

"How unfortunate for you. My turn."

Sorry...in a weird mood this morning.

9. I'd add...
something about open, organized militias. Without that you have something more like an insurgency.

So I'd wind up with

1. A war between organized militias supporting factions or regions of the same country.

4. Civil War! Isn't that like Jumbo Shrimp?
Leaning towards oxymoronic. One good way to verify a definition these days is if anyone in the bush administration says it isn't, undoubtedly it is. Things are going great in Iraq, its just the evil liberal media constantly reporting bad news. Haven't you heard about that well in South Iraq which is providing water to tens of Iraqis?

'sectarian violence' just more made up phrases to try and make it seem it's something else. 'collateral damage' .... on and on. Peace.

Words and phrases that 'obscure meaning rather than enhance it' they shade the truth.

7. With all the violence in Iraq, it's hard to sort out what is organic
conflict, what is the result of the chaos our occupation has caused, and what could be the result of false flag operations to put stink on the insurgents and sow divisions so oil companies have a couple of smaller countries to bully rather than one big one.

Yep. That sounds about right when it comes to the situation in Iraq. Thanks so much George. I just know the Iraqi's are eternally grateful!
