Marijuana Package Mailed Without Address

MILL VALLEY, Calif. -- A man who allegedly mailed a half-pound of marijuana without an address label on the package was arrested after authorities returned it to its sender.

Steven Coburn, 48, of Mill Valley was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of drug possession for sale and investigators found another 1 1/2 pounds of marijuana worth $10,000 at his home behind Tamalpais High School, said Det. Matt Lethin of the Marin County Major Crimes Task Force.

The private Corte Madera shipping company where Coburn tried to mail the package on Feb. 16 followed company protocol by opening the package to see whether the label was accidentally sealed inside, Lethin said.

"Once they opened it up and saw what was inside, they immediately called law enforcement," Lethin said.

Which reinforces my belief that cops pay WAAAAAY too much for their drugs.

Unless that is some one-hit shit, that valuation is typically bogus. I'll bet the criminal statutes call for harsher sentences at the $10K amount.

9. $10,000? How drug prices are usually calcuated by the police...

The drug cops always calculate the lowest common retail denominator in calculating the "take".

With pot, for example, it was probably broken down to how many individual "joints" could have been made and then multiplied by some going price.

The point is that, ASSUMING that he was going to sell it (and that is an assumption - he could have grown 1.5 lbs in a small room in that house) whatever he was going to sell it for in the next "step" of distribution (quarters?/ounces?) would very unlikely be $10,000.

I wouldn't be surprised, however, if the shippers could smell the package and the label was 'accidentally' scraped off. In any case, you won't be able to accuse this guy of being the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Bullshit!! Everytime I see stories about drug busts, they lie about how much it's really worth. What is the point of that? Are they just trying to make it seem like the war on some drugs is actually making a difference? Ugh.

Much easier and safer to go after a single pot grower than an ARMED and organized group.
In my town at least, the pot growers usually tend not to be violent,
and it still counts as a bust.
As long as they can show numbers, they're 'winning the War on Drugs'. :eyes:
