1. This is positively chlling.
There's something huge and ugly going on and we need to stop it. * and his family are still in the drug business and definitely are involved in money laundering if they are ramming this through.

10. Did anyone really think Poppy Bush woke up one day and decided to STOP
armsdealing, drugrunning, and moneylaundering just because he was no longer president?

This is why Kerry wanted the BCCI books opened to the public.

8. Very chilling
Dubai is more infested than I ever imagined. 40% of the world's illegal arms traffic goes through there. It was hard to understand the author, did anyone get a good hear on the part about a US General with an account due to arms dealing? And what NY back was it associated with that Senators had accounts in?

(Actually,I was outside digging a hole and planting a shrub...for some reason, I took out my little radio and tried to listen to 1650 El Paso. By some miracle it came in, and was able to listen and then this bit came up at 1:40 into the show. Why I decided to take the radio outside, I will never know...but I'm glad I did...)

His book is on the web...let's go get it!!

Randi actually found this last night because she wanted to learn more about the UAE money laundering and she came up with this book. It was quite by accident and she then contacted the author.

He says that he has all sorts of documents that he offered to the NY Times and CNN back after 911 and the refused to look into his material. OF COURSE!!!!

He has a green card, I believe he's Indian. His wife is American and is at Columbia Univ. He had been in the UAE for 20 years, I believe he said 20 years.

18. This is tangled up with Viktor Bout
I've been yelling about notorious arms dealer Viktor Bout here for over a year -- and it seems like time to yell some more.

Hakim's website includes a chapter of his book -- and that, in turn, includes replicas of some letters at the bank, one of which mentions San Air General Trading as an account that had been found questionable enough to close. So I googled San Air, not expecting to find much, and what came up -- to my amazement -- was this:

http://www.ruudleeuw.com/vbout14.htm
Richard Ammar Chichakli is the nephew of a former president of Syria and a veteran of the U.S. Army, a family friend of the bin Ladens who hung out with a youthful Osama and ran a free-trade zone in the United Arab Emirates. According to the United Nations, Chichakli also served as the financial overseer of arms trader Victor Bout's far-flung network of air cargo operations. . . .

Chichakli is the agent for several companies registered in Texas. San Air General Trading, which is run by associates of Bout, has Chichakli listed as president and director, while the two other names that appear on the registration form are Serguei Denissenko and Vladimir Kviazeo. Denissenko, in addition to being general manager of San Air in the United Arab Emirates, is also the commercial manager for Bout's Centrafrican Airlines. San Air owns some of the aircraft operated by Centrafrican Airlines.

San Air, which mainly uses Boeing 707 and Ilyushin-76 aircraft, also "supplies arms from Bulgaria to the DRC government," according to an intelligence document obtained by ICIJ. In addition, the company "transport commodities for the Angolan government," says the same document.

"San Air is a company in the free zone," Chichakli said. "It registered in Texas too. It wanted to have a maintenance facility for aircraft here, but it didn't work out." A U.S. branch gives the company more respectability, he added. Chichakli denied the company had any connection to arms trafficking. The other two officers of the company, Denissenko and Serguei Bout, Victor's older brother, came to the United States in the late 1990s. "It is a shell company, no activity, no liability, not in business, no employees," Chichakli said about San Air in Texas.

There's more on Chichakli and San Air at http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/longterm/stories/011506dnprochtimeline.20bed71.html

There's currently a thread running here on Bout, sparked by a new article about him in the Village Voice:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x2128568

I also recommend the extensive archive of posts on Bout at The Yorkshire Ranter:
http://yorkshire-ranter.blogspot.com/2005/06/all-viktor-bout-stuff-is-here.html

This guy needs all the attention we can give him. He is very close to the center of whatever dirt is going on. (And why the heck is San Air also registered in Texas? I'd sure love to see an answer to that.)

21. Here's an interesting LA Times article...

http://www.ruudleeuw.com/vbout24.htm

December 14th, 2004
WASHINGTON — Air cargo companies allegedly tied to reputed Russian arms trafficker Victor Bout have received millions of dollars in federal funds from U.S. contractors in Iraq, even though the Bush administration has worked for three years to rein in his enterprises.

Planes linked to Bout's shadowy network continued to fly into Iraq, according to government records and interviews with officials, despite the Treasury Department freezing his assets in July and placing him on a blacklist for allegedly violating international arms sanctions. Largely under the auspices of the Pentagon, U.S. agencies including the Army Corps of Engineers and the Air Force, and the U.S.-led Coalition Provisional Authority, which governed Iraq until last summer, have allowed their private contractors to do business with the Bout network. Four firms linked to the network by the CIA and international investigators have flown into Iraq nearly 200 times on U.S. business, government flight and fuel documents show. One such flight landed in Baghdad last week.

<snip>

Although Bout is wanted for money laundering by Interpol and Belgian authorities and various agencies raised red flags during the last year, his network continued to do business with some U.S. agencies and their contractors, officials said. U.N. investigations and American officials have linked Air Bas, incorporated in Texas but based in the United Arab Emirates, and Irbis, a company registered in Kazakhstan, to Bout's aviation empire. The same officials have also scrutinized two other airlines that flew into Iraq, British Gulf International and Jetline, for possible ties to Bout.

Among the firms holding U.S. government contracts that officials said were using the network's services: FedEx and KBR. The latter, formerly known as Kellogg Brown & Root, is a subsidiary of Halliburton, the Houston conglomerate formerly headed by Vice President Dick Cheney and holder of a massive no-bid contract for reconstruction projects in Iraq. Under pressure to move quickly on the crisis in Iraq, officials have paid little attention to the welter of subcontractors and sub-subcontractors involved in the massive reconstruction effort.

Also, hasn't wmr covered a lot of this?

22. Here's the article I was thinking of by Wayne Madsen...
that draws connections between Richard T. Hines and Bout. It also provides ties to the Israeli mob, which Madsen has reported on extensively:

http://www.globalpolicy.org/intljustice/wanted/2005/1212ties.htm

The connections between Hines and Gambia are important since the small narrow West African country is also a major base of operations for notorious Russian international arms smuggler Viktor Bout. The Gambia is the headquarters for one of many of Bout's front companies -- companies that are used to smuggle everything from weapons to diamonds and mercenaries to international relief supplies. In fact, Bout was the character on whom fictional arms smuggler Yuri Orlov, played by Nicolas Cage in the movie Lord of War, was largely based.

Bout's connections with the Christian Right do not end with Gambia. Bout was Liberian dictator Charles Taylor's primary arms and diamond smuggler. Bout and his associates were given Liberian diplomatic passports and, with Taylor's blessing and protection, they registered a number of their front companies in Monrovia, the Liberian capital. Taylor, who is now in exile in Nigeria, was a business partner with Christian Coalition founder Pat Robertson. Robertson's organization mentored both Ralph Reed and Richard Hines. According to British and Israeli intelligence sources, Taylor also enabled Al Qaeda to launder blood diamonds for cash through Liberia. Liberia and neighboring Sierra Leone were where Israeli mobsters engaged in business with Israeli gangsters who operated under the full protection of the Israeli Likud government.

Before Likud began purging Mossad of experienced intelligence officers with ties to the Israeli Labor Party, the Israeli-Al Qaeda diamond financial connection in West Africa was being pointed out by those officers as suicidal for Israeli interests. However, Taylor and Bout had powerful interests in the United States: a combination of the Christian Right and pro-Likud organizations like the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), both of which ignored and continue to ignore Israeli organized crime connections to Al Qaeda and terrorism.
