Peach 'row' beckons for US states
BBC News, UK - 4 hours ago

The US state of Alabama is set to make the peach its official tree fruit. Aimed at rewarding the work of state peach farmers, the ...

GOOD GRIEF.. Are things going that great in Alabama, that they would waste legislative time crafting legislation to make Alabama's "Official Fruit Tree", the Peach??

And they tried to tell us they had some trouble with some gusty winds & a little rain, back in August.. :eyes:

If legislatures waste time on this kind of stuff, they obviously don;t have enough to do, or aren't smart enough to know what needs doing..

Term limits are SOOOOO necessary.. These freaks are too comfy in their jobs..

1. We would challenge Alabama to a duel but we're too busy with crap like:
http://www.blogfordemocracy.org/

Red Clay Would Be Official State Dirt Under Lawmaker's Bill: Rep. Bobby Franklin, R-Marietta, has introduced a bill designating Georgia red clay as the official state dirt.
It is HB 1443.

Franklin said it was prompted by criticism he got from a constituent for his recent vote against the bill designating the Southern Appalachian brook trout the official state cold water fish. “It got me to thinking these things are important to some people,” he said. Franklin, who was raised in Alabama and had heard about Georgia red clay all his life, said he got to thinking what still hadn’t been designated an official state symbol and hit upon the dirt idea.

“It’s definitely not a joke,” he said.

3. Do you see what we're up against here? This will be far more
important to some people than the fact that the Republican Gov and Republican legislature pushed 75,000 children out of the PeachCare system (the state insurance for uninsured children)!!!!!!!!!

But thank gawd they have their priorities straight - and those pesky gays can't marry either. :sarcasm:

11. Alabama has an official state "spirit" aka whiskey
Conecuh Ridge Alabama Fine Whiskey

But Alabama already has an official state fruit -- the blackberry.

5. Personally (oh man I hope none of the other GA DUers see this as we're
meeting tomorrow night and I will get flamed), but I think California peaches are better than Georgia peaches. Now, as far as our Peaches (good ol' Georgia gals) y'all ain't got squat on us :P

7. On the "legislative time" wasted on fruit trees designations,
Ohio, in the eighties, just had to make legislation designating an official "rock and roll state song" . . .
