RW mad because S. Dakota law allows exception to save the mother
Yes. These freaks are upset because the South Dakota law would allow an abortion if it is necessary to save the life of the mother.

http://www.prolifeblogs.com/articles/archives/2006/02/south_dakota_wh.php

What you might not know is that the law has a hole in it which is so wide you can drive a MAC truck through it.

What is this hole? Here's a quote from the Washington Times:

"Under the measure, doctors in South Dakota would face up to five years in prison for performing an abortion. The only exception would be for women who need abortions to save their lives"
Article

Many of you may ask what the big deal is, so let me give you my point of view. If you have an exception, any exception, you are saying that the person inside the womb is negotiable, like an object. In my opinion, a person is a person, from the moment of conception.

Let's look at this from another perspective. Let's say you are hanging on a rope and your daughter is hanging onto your foot. You are losing strength because of the extra weight she is putting on you and the rope starts to slip.

a) Do you kick your daughter to free yourself from her grip so that you might live?
b) Do you do everything you can so that you both might live?

I imagine most of you will select b. I imagine you would get extra strength from somewhere to make sure that both of you lived.

If we live with the thought that we should kill our children to save ourselves, we will always try to put ourselves first. We won't make much of an effort for our children. Not only is a moral issue, it is a psychological one. We will develop a selfish attitude that puts us before our children.

Should we push for this type of legislation? Absolutely not.

Should there be exceptions for the health of the mother or the life of the mother? Absolutely not.

1. They should move to Chile if that's what they want
We're not going to have it here and we will not comply with laws like this one either.

2. Any woman who would rather die than abort should have the right to die.
Edited on Fri Feb-24-06 08:52 PM by CottonBear
Every woman who would rather live should have the right to abort and live.

I don't think there are many women who would choose death.

3. Drive "a MAC truck" through it?
What the Sam Hill is "A MAC truck"? A truck with cool styling that's great for graphics but isn't compatible with Windows trucks?

You are losing strength because of the extra weight she is putting on you and the rope starts to slip.

Wouldn't it be your hands that start to slip, not the rope?

Anti's = morans. :dunce:

Most fundie moral arguments are derived from medeival philosopher St. Thomas Aquinas, who moral philosophy most philosphers consider BS. A utillitarian would consider these fundies immoral scum.

and is incompatible with social justice, in my opinion.

7. I would throw myself in front of a car to save my daughter,
but I would not die for an embryo. A living, breathing child needs their mother far more than a POTENTIAL brother or sister. If you cannot understand that, YOU have no heart.

I guess this is precisely why they cannot comprehend a pro choice MOTHER.

Incidentally, I was in that position. I had an ectopic pregnancy.

29. I'm glad you posted this
I have a coworker who has four children and swears that if she was pregnant again and was told that to continue the pregnancy would kill her that she would not abort. I just looked at her and said you would leave the four children you have motherless - beyond comprehension..... Truthfully I believe if it came to that she would terminate the pregnancy.

you are saying that the life of the person who owns the womb is negotiable, like an object. A conscious, aware object.

15. If even one woman dies because of this law, it will be too many.
I wonder how many of them would stick with this view if it was their life or their daughters life that was in danger if they carried a pregnancy to term. I'll bet they could find an exception for that.

18. NONE.
I've probably posted this over a dozen times in the last couple of days: Federal law trumps state law. The law will be enjoined before it's due to go into effect. Period. Then it will be struck down in Federal Appeals CT. It has to be struck down. The lower courts are constrained by the SC, and specifically in this case, by Roe. The State will then appeal it to the SC. Odds are that court, as it currently stands, will not grant it certiorari. Now some folks think it will, but most constitutional scholars believe that it won't. If it does go before the court as it's now composed, it will be struck down 5 to 4.

19. The USSC will refuse to hear it at this cycle
It is too politically charged.

They will duck and run. The conservatives on the Court know they don't have the will of America with them, and even they dread being tarred and feathered.

Planned Parenthood will file a suit if the governor is stupid enough to sign the bill. The suit will stop the enaction of the bill.

I'm sending off a check to Planned Parenthood right away.
I've also read one article that said economic threats have been made to South Dakota if this bill is signed.

12. Do they not realize that if the mother dies, chances are that the
embryo, fetus or baby dies with her? Even with their twisted logic, do they think that two deaths would be better than one? How could they justify condemning a woman to death?

22. Why is it up to them? They make it personal by asking "If it was your
daughter..." Well then, I suggest they butt out and leave it up to the actual family members instead of trying to make decisions for people they have never even met. (And again, nice way to make the women count for ZERO. It's never about save the baby, it's always about who-the-hell-cares-about-the-woman.)

I was very nice. I was very pleasant.

I explained what an ectopic pregnancy is, what happens to you if you attempt to carry one to term (it will kill you), and the five ways of treating one, all of which are abortions.

How much ya wanna bet it never gets posted?

33. ectopic pregnancies as death sentences
ectopic pregnancies are pregnancies outside the womb. They progress a few months, then the mother bleeds to death. The "baby" never has a chance, no matter how desperately the parents want things to work out. This happened to a friend of mine.

What a sick, sanctimonious doofus.

34. If you kick the child free to save your life
Are you a murderer? And isn't that what choice is all about, the right to make your own decisions because alot of people tried to save their children in the hurricane and flood and storm surge, and they weren't able to. Are all the parents who lived murderers because they didn't die trying to save their children?

These people don't value life, they value being sacrificial lambs. Not the same thing at all.
