Tom,
I know that link is:

http://www2.xlibris.com/bookstore/bookdisplay.asp?bookid=30179

I really do get it. I am not a pacifist.

I rememer to this day, the telegrams about twice a month that went up my street as to who died in Viet Nam. And to this day, I know the cause may have been a good one - and I remember them spitting on my brothers coming home from that war. I remember.

One of my best friends in this life interpreted on a boat in Tonken in 65 and he knows the truth, why my brothers went there - all true. SO do you, and too few others.

Tom - you could disagree with everything I say on everything - and I KNOW we are on the same wavelenghth. I'd back you 110%, because I know you know.

I know, but for the grace of God, so go I -

Good for you Tom!!!

Joe

1. you actually saw VietNam vets get spit on?
Edited on Fri Feb-24-06 10:30 PM by AZDemDist6
I always thought that was an urban legend. I certainly never saw it on the streets of San Francisco or Berkley in the early 70's

5. me too!
I was in Detroit in the early 70s...and was at many anti war marches and protests and never saw this happen...never even heard the stories until many years later. At the marches and protests, i never heard anyone at any time blame the soldiers..or any of the crap that i read about years later when someone was re visting the era.

13. It doesn't happen in a march, it happens on the street,
What the hell are you talking about - they REALLY did blame those soldiers.
Shit, it happened at rallies my other siblings were at.

None of us do well to disavow reality - especially not 30 years later.

It did happen, we need to grow up and learn.

I was probably 17 years old - and it happened, doesn't make it right or wrong - just real.

16. ya know, there are angry assholes everywhere,
but i was there...and it was my friends that died in that war..and there were a lot of them that did die...and i will tell you that the anti war movement then was the same as it is now...we wanted the war to end..and most of all we wanted the soldiers home..we wanted the dieing to stop..and that was what the whole movement then was about...late in the 70s, like all movements, there were assholes that infiltrated it for the free love, hard drinking and drugging "party" they thought it was, but wasnt...it was a movement of good people who cared about the world, but if you saw spitting, i am not going to debate it with you...cause i do know that there were assholes out there...just as there are today.

19. Oh, Mexico-
we agree on the end point of the conversation, then and now. SO, we don't have an argument.

But as a practical matter, that SOB was able to divide us even 30 years later on that matter.
And we can only win by recognizing the pattern and overcoming it with fact.

You are right, there were always assholes out there.

I think we are a little smarter now, though.

7. You bet it happened, and I saw it alright.
My parents had seven kids. Three went there. And three fought the war. SDS, etc..

I was in high school the day we pulled out. My next oldest brother had just gone.

They really did spit on them.

You did NOT want to be a vet coming back then, And hell, John was a fucking medic!!

But I understood it, so did he.

The truth is I had questions about Kerry, he didn't, they didn't - not for a second. I think it says a lot.

And I know Bush was NO fighter pilot, And I knew a lot them - not in his blood.

That happened,

Joe

14. Like you
I never saw it in San Francisco and I was there from '64 to '69. There were always a helluva lot of members of the various branches on Market Street, in the Tenderloin, out in North Beach and most any bar you went into. And I gotta admit that at one time or another I was a goodly number of those bars. If it happened, I didn't see it. Actually the only time I saw a GI accosted was when a buddy of mine (former airborne) chased a paratrooper a couple of blocks down Market because he was wearing his piss-cutter with the Glider Patch in the back and Ronnie didn't like it.

17. The problem is, if we don't deal with the reality,
we get the left overs.

Didn't happen to me. So, it isn't really my issue.

The very reason those SOBs can make this attack at all is because it did happen.

We have to deal with it, alright.

And overcome it, too. In a way, it is our issue.

18. Sorry TahitiNut
It shouldn't have happened to you or anyone else.
I haven't said it never happened, only that I had never seen it happen myself. My apologies for the assholes of the world that can't understand the difference between those that are sent and those that send them.

21. Well, at least you got *Greeted*
People are so apathetic now-a-days. At least they had passion back then.

All kidding aside, I'm sorry you had to deal with anger here after returning from there.

20. I don't know. Sorry to let you down, but I was asking the same
question, and pointing out that there was no "cause."

At least not in Quang Tri City and and An Loc in April and May of 1972. Not then. There was just blood and death then. And before and after too. No cause at all.

Again, I apologize for not being able to help. But I will say one thing: I do like your screen name; it's clever.
