donut store encounter
Edited on Sat Feb-25-06 08:39 AM by radfringe
I had a hankering for a donut this morning and thought my partner would like one too --- soooo I ran out to the local bakery...

I'm at the counter, and this other guy is chugging down a coffee and yapping with one of the workers

they are discussing the UAE port deal -- the guy says "...so what's the big deal? what's the difference between the Brits running the port and the Arabs?"

much to the worker's credit - she tried to "explain" that one was owned privately and the other is state-run... but she was clearly in trouble

enter me and my big mouth "are you saying there's no difference between the United Arab Emirites and Great Britan?"

guy: "yeah. no difference."

me: so Great Britain are connected to the terrorists too? they funnelled money and aid to the 9/11 guys? They are letting nukes and other WMD materials through the ports? They threw up stone walls when we tried to freeze terrorist sources of money?

guy stood there sputtering as I paid for my donuts and gave the guy a parting shot "Does bush know about this? I mean he thinks Tony Blair is great..."

---

on edit: PS - donuts tasted even sweeter

3. good job and good jab

A point I would add - if it is no big deal why the wierd spin coming from the WH? First mention: Bush will veto any rejection by Congress of the deal; next mention (a day later): Bush didn't even know about the deal until it was a done deal (so why so bent on veto?); third day: WH says the deal was fully vetted and there are security safe guards (that state that when reasonable the company should comply with requests from HLS and other security agencies). If it was no big deal why the contradictory spin from the WH?
