1. Tenn.'s dead zone containing the walking dead employees |

from article:
When completed, the Highly Enriched Uranium Materials Facility will resemble a concrete fortress as big as four football fields. Construction began in 2002 as part of a major modernization of the Y-12 plant, which makes parts for every warhead in the country's nuclear weapons arsenal.
-snip- --------------------------------
americans are totally stupid to allow this and to allow it to continue
americans need tutelage on all things nuclear as they are dumb as dirt about this lethal stuff

2. Actually there is a need for this sort of storage |
|
After all, this is the uranium and plutonium that is coming from all of the nuclear bombs that they are decommissioning. This work is making the world safer in the since that there are now fewer bombs floating around.
Trouble is that once again, the government is relying in "lowest price possible" method of contracting, thus they get a facility where corners are cut, and work is shoddy. Hopefully this facility can be fixed in order to utilize it.
And interestingly enough, a lot of the nuclear material will be going to this facility for a relatively short while. A lot of it will then be processed for use as fuel.
And frankly, if the facility is secure and well built, I would rather they store this stuff in TN rather than in Yucca Mt. Yucca is just a disaster waiting to happen.
