He seems articulate and willing to listen to his guests. I also listened to part of his State of the Black Union remarks that someone here kindly linked for me. If he were interested in the job, I think he should start letting people be aware of this and get something off the ground.

3. How well known is he to the ordinary voter? |
|
It might take a while to build up name recognition.

4. I watch him frequently and used to listen when he had a radio show on |
|
I should say, however, that shortly after the 2004 (s)election, he had Ken Blackwell on, and they were pretty buddy buddy, it seemed. I don't remember the specifics, or even the topic, but there was no effort on Tavis' part to confront Blackwell with any of the issues going on in Ohio following the election.

5. I like Tavis, and he's a very smart man, but not nationaly electable. |
|
I love to listen to him, and almost always agree with him, but every time I hear him speak, he reminds me of that old "FedEX commercial" were the guy talked SO FAST you had to really pay total attention of you'd have no idea what he said. Tavis does this all the time! Sorry to say but most people would just tune out because they wouldn't have any idea what the heck this guy was saying!!!

I'm not suggesting that he's not smart or appealing; he's both.
The thing is, he's never been elected to any office. The only office he ever ran for was a City Council seat, and he lost.
