Poll question: who did you vote for in 2000?
I'm interested in current DU demographics.

36. I thought I was wasting a perfectly good protest vote by
voting for Gore (I live in an extremely red state). But I was delighted that my vote ended up counting towards Gore's popular majority.

3. I didnt' vote...
In 2000, I was a young idiot (of voting age) and I didnt' give two cents of rat crap about politics. BUT, the election of 2000, got me active in politics. I watched on cspan, and the networks the SCOTUS crap, and all that jazz around the Florida thing. In my mind, both should just do another ballot casting for the state, and Gore's team said they would do another vote for the state, or counties in question. Bushes lawyer team laughed at that, adn wanted the courts to award the presidency to bush. Right then, watching that, I knew the people, the vote didn't matter, and I was very upset over that....

And, if i did vote in 2000, I would have voted for W anyways. I don't like Tipper Gore, and having that Censoring woman, near that much power/influence in govt was a no no in my book, and Al's stance on Gun Control issues...but, on the other hand, like i said, i wasn't into politics, and they only thing i heard in 2000, was the media spin on both canidates....but it was that election, that got me active, and a Dem in a heart beat...

Like i said, Dems/Gore wanted a recount, or revote, Bush/rw didn't want either, and wanted it solved in court, and not by what the Voters cast....

4. The winner, of course.
Though I now cringe a bit at the thought of once having voted for Joe Liebermann.

14. Why'd you think that
And more importantly, do you question the sources that caused you to think that when you're considering the truth of current politics and policies.

21. I was asking a genuine question
It didn't come out the way I meant it. What I meant was, what's the difference between where you got your information from in 2000 and now. Or have you not changed your opinion.

32. Boy answering this question isn't going to win me any friends
In 2000 I was more liberal than I am now - I got most of my information, the information I took seriously, from far left sources. And on character issues I belived that they were equivilent. I was also influenced to a certain extent by the presses war on gore - some of those stories (inventing the internet and so on) i ended up buying at least in part.

Since then I've broadened my political study.

33. That is really very helpful
I think talking about our own political journies is a good thing. Like, were you really "more liberal" or have you become more solution oriented or just gotten older or what exactly. The press issue is interesting too. It is hard for that stuff not to influence people, everybody has to really be on guard against it, no matter what the media source is because they all do it. Left leaning publications distort too. I see factual errors on DU every day. And I see just as many offensive and hateful graphics and jokes and comments as the right makes. We just don't have an entire television station devoted to them is all. But seeing how it all plays out with the individual is interesting.

I was not in swing state, so I traded my vote with a Nader voter -- in a swing state, and he voted for Gore in his state.

31. Same here
Edited on Sun Feb-26-06 04:45 PM by Ignacio Upton
That election was what actually "introduced" me to politics. I was too little to give a shit about the '88, '92, or '96 elections. I also didn't pay much attention to the Monica controversy or impeachment other than finding it funny that he was getting impeached for having sex with another women.
I've actually hated Bush since 2000, when I heard about his smear tactics against McCain in the SC primary (who I originally wanted to win because I saw him as a reformer), while at the same time, people I knew who liked Bush for whatever reason would criticize Gore as being "negative" or "whiny." Basically, I just felt that Bush was getting a free lunch and he should not be annointed to the Presidency just because of his name or personallity. The only difference between then and now is that I can relate more to people my own age about the issue of politics.

I initially supported McCain then switched to Gore after the primaries. After that, I took a break from being political until the Iraq war.
